So today at work I decided to try and fix my mirror. Due to the extra clip on mirror the weight is too much for it to hold up and it droops...

So long story short I put some tape on the ball of the mirror arm, went to push the mirror back on and was perhaps a bit too hard... :doh

This is the center of the windscreen, what the mirror slides onto

It gets better yet... So I used some superglue to fix it back to the screen as it's now damaged... All fixed in place.. And just about it drive I noticed passenger mirror was low.. :augie lent over to poke it up and smashed the ferk out of the mirror some more.. And putting a further and longer crack in the screen..

All this for a 6 quid mirror

I am also looking for the black curved arm with the ball piece if anyone has one kicking about, it connects the mirror one side and screen on the other :thumb2

That looks like serious windscreen cracking there Alex. I would have thought an MOT failure, certainly prone to further cracking with temperature changes etc......good luck replacing it........:(

Quite ironic really, as you were recently involved with a relay to get a screen to France... bet you wish you'd kept it now lol...:augie

Best check your insurance policy, but still might cost you £70 :doh

Fitting interior mirrors, isn't what it's cracked up to be...:doh

:lol

:lol

Oh rustic that joke is not on :lol

The screen cover is not included in my insurance, I have a specialist we use at work for the jags, he's gonna do it for me, screen and fitting 120 quid  not as cheap as insurance but cheap compared to an independent fitter and souring a new window :thumb2

Oh Alex!!!!!!!!!! :lol :lol :lol :lol

I'd have kept this a secret :doh

I'm off before Rustic gets here :hide:

TOO LATE lol....:lol

I guess there must have been a stress chip ready to go... one bump could have done it... just a matter of time.

I love father Ted but the Mrs hates it,so I watch it on Netflix when she is down at the stables.
That sketch reminds me of my brother and his car repair skills.

Oh go on go on go on go on

Good old Mrs doyle :thumb2
I have alot of family over on the emerald isle and my aunt Mary won't let me leave until I have had 14 cups of tea and 2 loafs of soda bread, the real life Mrs doyle :lol:lol

Alex, you seem to be still smiling so good on you pal. The cost although not wanted could of been a whole lot worse.
I remember working in the motor trade and getting stuff done cheap. Really miss that at the moment, trying to get a towbar fitted to the skoda costing best part of £500 ouch.

Haha mrs Doyle, :D :thumb2

And re the windscreen yeah, gotta keep smiling, most expensive windscreen we've invoked at work all in was just shy of 800 quid

The chap doing mine is very skilled, although it will be set in 1:45 hours we will be leaving it overnight and not moving it an inch to really let it set hard as it is a structural part yaddy yadda :augie

Out of interest I had a mirror fixing that kept falling off I tried various types of double sided tape all to no avail. In the end I cleaned all the old adhesive off and managed to scrounge some Tiger Seal from a local bidyshop - it was a third of a tube and they bin it as it does not keep. They use it to glue on wings on Audis.

Secured the mounting with Tiger seal having spent some time beforehand with some bits of offcut wood to hold it in place overnight plus a spot of silver duct tape. Left it for 24 hours, removed all the supports next day and it was rock solid and never came off again.

Just one slight niggle was that it was a couple off mm off level but I eventually forgot about that. Should have put some masking tape on first to get the level right !

Windscreen replacement is booked for Thursday.

Does anyone know if I can find a replacement center peice for the mirror fitting or alternatively a complete mirror assembly that bolts straight to the original fitting on the windscreen.

The Nissan Terrano windscreen comes with the metal fixing as part of the screen, removal is not an option (as physically bonded to the screen), so wonder if a Halfords jobbie would be compatible or if I must source a second hand mirror "arm" :nenau

Ive got the mirror thats fine, however the arm that the mirror sits on had the ball one side (for the mirror) and the two arms on the other side (for the window) one of the arms is broken. :(
