A customer of mine has decided to sell his t2.
its a 54 plate 3.0ltr sve in silver.
He has loved this car to bits for as long as I can remember and spared no expence on keeping it tip top condition.
He has never off roaded and only keeps it for towing.
however on his latest france trip (for a month the jammy git) the gear box bearing let go shredding a seal and loosing all the gearbox oil.
the local garages wanted a whopping 5,800 euro to replace it:eek:.
luckily he was in the caravan club and had some kind of insurance set up with them and he managed to finish his holiday and get his truck back.
its currently being repaired by a local garage at 1100 quid ish.
when its done it will probably last a long time but he has lost faith and brought a sorento with 7 year warranty.
personaly I would of kept it after having it fixed.
hes hoping to get 4,250 for it:nenau
seems a bit pricy to me but the winter season is coming.
and I said I would put the word out on here.

I have spent a lot of time recently looking at such cars for sale (via the internet rather than forecourts).
If it is as cared for as you say then I think the price is about right. Not cheap but by no means expensive either.
My purchase is dependant on selling another car of mine. As I haven't even advertised it yet I am in no position to buy it, otherwise I would be interested.

Why spend 1100 on a perfectly good motor then sell it.

I agree. but his wifes answer was the age of it wasn't apparent till this happened.
I think there holiday was a disappointment and they wanted a brand new car.
my reply was it can happen to any car at any time.
Another customer of mine had a brand new vauxaul summat or other and the gear box syncro mesh broke and not just once but three times. she ended up changing the car altogether.
I think the bloke with the t2 was more concerned about buying a new car with such a long warranty.
at the end of the day a 9 year old car is in some peoples opinions a very old car.
It is still at the garage at the mo having the box removed and rebuilt.
it will be a very good car when done.
its an expencive job that I am going to have to find the money for one day as my gearbox rattles its tits off.
But when I get it done I certainly wouldn't entertain selling it:D

looking at the prices on ebay for a 54 plate at 4,250 hes expecting top wack.
a decent deal would be a grand cheaper..

err... what does that make my 18+ year old then? :doh:doh

Old enough to vote...:thumb2

:lol:lol

a gearbox rebuild is only as good as the bloke that does it!
I have just sold a tidy 04 plate 2.7 80k full mot and very tidy for £3200

I agree...
looking around he is living in cookoo land....
and yes mines 12 years old and still without rust (much) and I would rather keep this going and adapting it even if it cost me 1k a year than 20k on a new one that your worried about people wacking it on car parks etc...
in my eyes that's 20 years motoring.... and if I did spend that on it wot a motor it would be!

My 04 3.0 SVE LWB 68,000 was £4700 4 weeks ago, that was trade. I would expect private low mileage £3400 to £3900.

I don't know why I went trade, the RAC Warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. :(:doh
