Cant get this into 4x4.
For a while its been difficult to get out of 4x4 but now its stuck in 2wd and not moving at all.
Maybe this is a common problem and someone has a handy picture of what to lubricate and hit with a mallet?
Or a cunning way to fix it without having to grovel underneath in snow and rain and dark and cold...

2.7 TDI

Simply lube and operate the external linkage on the box, but you have to get under to do it, Rick

Could be, does the lever depress and come back up easily? if not then the lever wants looking at or if as bad as panebeaters replacing, Rick

I had this when I first purchased my Terrano

It was just down to a seized guide plate and pin, it would go between 2H and 4H fine but down into 4L was impossible.

In the end I got the lads at work to remove the guide plate and then encourage the pin with a hammer, suitable drift and some penetrating fluid whilst I was going through all of the different positions with the lever from within the truck.

Once it goes in, it will go in with a clunk!!! Then you'll find it will be easy to get in and out from that point onwards :thumb2 Try it again with the guide plate back on before you get excited :thumb2

have a look here and pay close attention to the link to a picture of the guide plate by RayF

Thanks guys. I'm guessing its seized at the plate. The lever rattles a little, small amount front and back and side to side, but wont move at all out of 2WD.
So it feels like it is moving ok in whatever the top bearing is, but whatever it is trying to move at the bottom is stuck fast.
