Tried the 4wd today but it does not like it, was on gravel yard same as how I tested when I first got my Mav, but it does not want to turn now. feels like windup? checked my auto hubs the other day to make sure they was working properly, which they are. I have only used the 4wd once since I got the Mav, reversing up grass bank, but a lot has been done to the Mav since then, both diffs oil change (correct type ) new front shocks, drop links, bushes, tracking? different tyres.
is my diff knackered? some of you may remember 1 of my auto hubs jammed on when in 2wd, could this have caused damage to the diff? :nenau

When you say it doesn't want to turn, do you mean as in turning a tight circle or rolling forward in a straight line, as even on gravel, it will fight turning a tight circle even on gravel at first, until it throws it everywhere...

I wouldn't say it was a tight turn, as I said I did this when I first got the Mav on problems then. Feels like something is binding or twisting?

I think it's probably down to the gravel maybe more wet? Not as dusty so won't slip as easily as in dry weather?

Also tyres may be gripping more than your previous ones.

I wouldn't worry too much.

They do feel pretty tight when in 4wd.

Where are you in the South East, maybe you could meet up with one of us who is also down this end of the country, and we could compare, just to set your mind at rest.

I can't remember what your problems were with the hubs, but maybe one was not locking at all, which means when you first tried it, it was not "winding" up, as the drive was all going to one wheel, and the "wind up", being lost via the diff.

When you say you checked the hubs recently, how did you do it?

It seems to be quite hard to test the Auto ones.

The only way I found, is to lift front wheels, and with the transfer box in 2wd or neutral, to turn the front prop shaft. It will turn fairly easily, then you will hear one of the hubs click into place, and it will become a lot harder to turn. at this point you will see one of the wheels move a bit. You need to stop this wheel turning, and wait for the second one to click into place, it will take both hands to turn the prop shaft, but now you should be able to release the wheel you were holding still, and one wheel will turn forward, and one backwards. I then wind the prop shaft the other way, listen for them to unlock, and then repeat it. This takes a fair bit of work to turn the prop, as I was surprised just how stiff it all was.

I can't think of any other way to test them.

Did as you turning the prop, also put in 4wd then jacked up, both were locked, apart from messing up someone's garden I can't think of anywhere local to test properly

I gave up on my auto hubs i went on ebay baught a brand new set of AVM manual ones cost £185 best purchase yet no trouble with them

I think you need to confirm wether these are working or not.

Find a patch of grass with a rescue or easy escape and test it :thumb2
