Maybe the trip is in Km and he does not realise !!

I can get 27 mpg out of my R3mR when it does the Booze run to France as long as I do not exceed 2,300 rpm in o/d top. Mostly it nearer 22 mpg average in summer down to 19 mpg in winter its an Auto 2.7 TD with intercooler.

GPM rather than MPG

My intercooled auto R20 mpg is a secret.
If my Wife knew the truth she would raffle it off.

Actually ,I reckon it does about 350 miles on 80 litres in winter .
Is that good , bad or average ?

Are you kidding???? Thats awful...

350/80 = 4.375 miles/litre

x 4.524 = 19.87 miles/gallon.

You should be getting 23-25mpg in mixed driving with an auto.....stick a K&N 57i on - that'll give you an extra 2-3mpg immediately.

i remeber my r3m i thought i was doing good ,then realised it was in kms! mind you just bought 5l petrol for saws £7.82

i think his odometer is in km :augie .....probably 40 km to a gallon :lol

Don't you guys all poo poo me but I still get 30+ mpg from my '99 2.7 that's got 150 000 on the clock. That's town and country driving out here on the Fens keeping it to 2000ish rpm and not going past 3000 rpm when accelerating. Once got 36 mpg on a 130 mile run on A roads at about 1800rpm....... long old journey though :)

you won believe me !

I know you won't believe me but I drove 56000 miles on the mistral in the last 12 months. I have very minor problems, I posted here.

The average on motorway (Galway Dublin) is pretty good if you drive at 70m/h

On the small roads I use economy mode even over at 60 miles per hour, I know the manual says not over 65km/h. And it does save lots of money if you don't push it.:p

MPG

I recently got a 1998 Terrano 2 2.7 diesel automatic and I'm only getting 21 mpg. Has anyone any advice to improve this? Any views on tuning boxes or ECU remapping? Im told the ECU has to come out to get to the chip on this older model. Im in Burnley Lancs. I traded in an old 4.2 patrol and it was more ecomomical so I'm a bit dissapointed. If I put the caravan on the back it will be frightful consumption! I saw a recommendation to put on a K & N air filter. Does this replace the whole current cannister?
Thanks in advance for any information

just a couple of ideas .....

if you have a overdrive switch on your gear selector , is it on or off ? ( orange light on dash )

is your gear selector button ( on dash ) in auto mode ?

Should be getting 23-25 unless heavy footed. K&Ns come either as a replacement filter in the existing airbox (not best as the standard box is restricted in terms of airflow) or the 57i induction kit that replaces the airbox completely. The latter gives slightly better peformance and 2-3 mpg extra so soon pays for itself.

You might want to check/replace all your filters in view of the lowish consumption.

Or stick some SVO in the mix :)

Binding front calipers?
Slack or tight front wheel bearings?
Front hubs unlocked?
Half decent tyres blown up?
No roof box or other barn doors strapped to it?
Thermostat allowing it to quickly and fully warm up?
Viscous fan not seized?
Recently serviced?
Running properly?

21mpg is shocking none the less.

Have you mastered the O/D and gearbox mode switch?

Yes your mpg will improve with a tuning box somewhere around 3-4mpg, but you should fix the underlying problem(s) with your truck first.

yes to both questions, overdrive swith is in (on).
Any one any other tips please? How will the K7N filter fit, straight replacement of the large black filter cannister?
Thanks G

yes , you dont need to press the loud pedal to the floor , that doesnt really achieve much apart from increasing fuel consumption , and making the engine rev its nuts off ,when setting off from a standstill lift off the loud pedal and it will change up a gear :thumb2, drive it like a nissan diesel and not a chevvy v8 lol
