Hi just a quick question .. I've got a 3lt terrano, would I be wrong to down size to a 2.7 lt ??? Any opinions welcomed ! Cheers rob

Only thing u will notice is the lack of power but u can get the old girl remaped and apparently 3lt is better on fuel but u can counter that by running 2.7 on veg:augie
 
2.7 all the way, more reliable and better longevity
 
I've got the 2.7 with the power of the 3.0 as I had a remap also lower insurance group and probably less tax and best of all she runs on veg :thumb2
 
Just did a complete rear brake recon on my 97 Mav,
Lucas brake shoes £12
2x Wheel cylinders at £3.30 each
Spring return kit £12
So the older models certainly get my vote, plus Veg oil of course :thumb2

You pay more road tax than someone with a pre 2001 model and less road tax than a 2006 model, no matter if it's a 2.7 or 3.0 ;)
 
From what I have read, heard and seen, the 2.7TD/TDi is far superior although I have never owned a 3.0 so cannot give a first hand judgment on this

Parts are way cheaper as the 2.7's are much more available and the engines are solid, I fried mine to the point of explosion when my thermostat failed shut, EVERYONE I spoke to told me that I would have fried the head gasket however, after a pressure test it was fine, new water pump and stat and Marvin was rocking again

I have also recently found out that there are no belts on these engines as they are chain driven as is the 3.0 however the 2.7 is gear driven so no tensioners to replace either :thumbs

I have heard they lack the power of the 3.0 but after a bit of tweaking and a little re-map, it will be keeping up with the 3.0 in no time :cool:
