As my Terrano is now about 10Y old I thought I'd inspect the Maf (as you do when you at a loss for a pastime LOL).
First problem-it's fitted with 5 spline/centre pin anti-tamper screws aaarrrgggg!!!
Got a fair range of 6 spline tools & no-one believes it's actually a 5 spline.
Not to be beaten I managed to force a slotted flat-blade screwdriver bit in & loosened the 2 screws enough to remove them. Needless to say ordinary Philips screws replaced them.
The point is (finally!) I don't actually know what I'm supposed to be looking at/for (this is my first diesel) so any advice/pointers would be much appreciated.

There's not a lot you can do with a MAF, visual inspection for cleanliness and a spray with electrical contact spray, do not touch the wires with your fingers.

If it's running OK I would leave well alone.:thumb2

If you suspect the MAF is faulty, a new replacement is the only guaranteed fix.

It looks clean to me, for what that's worth, so I'll go by your advice & leave well-enough alone.
