I'm looking to buy a 2004 Terrano SVE. One of the selling points of the vehicle is that it is a 7 seater.

However when I went to look at it the rear bench would not securely latch into place. The dealer also could not get the seat to stay latched in. Then he looked at the latch mechanism in the hinges and said that there appears to be a spring missing from each latch. This spring would secure the latch and it would be a quick fix.

Does anyone have any photos of the rear bench seat lathing mechanisms so I can see what a complete assembly looks like?

Also, does the owner's manual cover the operation of the seat? The vehicle doesn't have an owner's manual and they do not appear to be easy to find online. I've found some service manuals, but the diagrams of the 3rd row bench are not great.

My other option is to source another rear bench from the breakers. Which years should be compatible with a 2004 Terrano?

Cheers!

I'd say try and fix the mechanism, this is the most detailed diagram I can find of the 3rd seat, now you're a paid up member you have access to all the workshop manual downloads yourself, well worth the tenner you've just spent alone

As far as I remember there are no springs... first question is, was there a mat in the boot.

The seat latches down to a u shaped fixing in the middle of the floor.

The two latches, one either side at the hinge lock the seat so it can only hinge into the vertical position, and you release them to enable you to fold the third row into the place of the second row, when opening the back up for large loads.

The only sprung bits I can think of are the two red covered hooks on the hinge mechanism, which hold the seat in place, and have nothing to do with the folding, just the removal. If that is the bit, I can check how that is sprung by looking on mine as I do not have the third row in the car.

Yes, this is the diagram that I've seen previously. It just doesn't have the detail I need about the latching mechanism. Are there springs in the latches?

Another option is to somehow fix the latches shut semi-permanently.

Yes there is a mat in the boot.

The issue is that the front hinges never seem to lock in place so the seat is never secure on the two lugs they mate to. So the seat will rest in place but as soon as any lateral pressure is applied it becomes unsecured.

I don't remember seeing any red items on the hinges so maybe this is the problem. I would love to see some photos of the complete hinges and the corresponding lugs on the flooring .

Here you go...

Sorry for the mess, I have not got around to cleaning the wifes cars boot out yet...

Wow. So this isn't at all what the floor mountings look like on the vehicle I'm looking at. I didn't get a photo, but the two front mountings on what I saw only had U-shaped lugs for the hinges to attach to. It also has the mounting for the rear latch which seemed to work fine. I'm looking at a 54 plate Terrano. I'm guessing the design of the rear seat fixings didn't change. I wonder what the story is of what I'm seeing. An after market mounting?
Do all LWB Terranos not have these mountings as standard?

I will try to get photos of what I'm seeing.

I think all the lwb are 7 seaters.

So is yours a short (3 door) or long (5 door) wheel base?

I have a 99 and the picture is from a 2001, and they are both the same.

Is that the 2nd row or the 3rd row

Didn't know you smoke the old :splif Mr Ferret :naughty
Its the 3rd row, eg boot.

We don't, what makes you think we do? The mess is from the previous owner.

There appears to be cannabis stalks or something very similar hiding on your seat latch :lol

It's a 5 door, LWB. Seat belts are there the 3rd row as well.

Can you get photos of your mountings also the hinge mechanism on the seat.

For what it's worth my old 05 plate had the same mountings and hinges as my t and r reg motors.

If I can get time to to stop by the dealer and take photos then I will.

If for some reason someone has fitted some botched brackets the chances are you'll be able to buy the correct bits from someone on here.

Like me :sly
Got a pair if you need them :thumb2

Have you tried to put this (back back seat as my kids call it ) in with the middle seats folded down forward. The mechanisms won't latch until you have the back back seat in the forward position and the middle seats get in the way so fold them down forward. Once the back back seat is in this position, you can now push the levers down to lock them. I have found this with both my 7 seater Terranos.
