could be worth contacting them, with you local garages report, if they supplied it new then they can return it to the supplier for a replacement, all by post, Rick

Well I checked the header tank again this morning and it was empty, but there was no visible sign of a major leak - i.e. nothing under the car to indicate a puddle of water or anything even like that :nenau

Temperature gauge all behaves itself, doesn't move from half way on the dial.

Will dig out the receipt from the last place that did the tensioner and see what they have to say for themselves :)

Keep and eye on the oil. Could be the head gasket has gone if you can't find any leaks.

Wouldn't there be white smoke out the exhaust and temperature rise? :nenau

I have neither at the moment

Dipstick and filler cap would have a mayonnaise looking substance on them. That's a good way get some indication if the water is going into the oil.

Dipstick was clean on Saturday when I checked the oil. Filler cap was fine when I picked it up a week ago. Will check that again lunchtime and see.

If those are ok, what else could it be?

I do not know the 3 litre engine, but on the 2.7, I had loads of problems when I first got mine.

When I had the small leak on my water pump gasket, it did all sorts of bad things, and with the turbo also burning oil, everyone on here thought I had blown the head gasket. Changed the water pump, replaced the radiator cap, as it was not sealing properly, and fitted jubilee clips to the pipe that runs from the radiator cap to the header tank, and the pipe was only a push fit, and moved a bit too easily. Once I bled the system, by running the engine with the radiator cap off, and keep squeezing the top pipe, and topping it up, so all the air was out, the water problem was cured...

The oil was another mater, and once I "un-linked the two, I took the bull by the horns and did the turbo, that was also cured.

I would get some of the red anti-freeze, re fill the system, and then look for the leak, it stands out a mile with that stuff, looks like you have run over a cat...

So really, loss of coolant could be quite a number of things

Had a look at lunchtime and coolant level not as bad as I first thought. My fault really since it was hard to see the level properly first thing in the not-so-bright morning (that's my eyes and the level of daylight)

Can see it clearly in the sunlight and it's dropped a little, but not loads like I first assumed (it's not like a woman to jump to conclusions eh! LOL) :doh

Filler cap and dipstick all both nice and clear of any nasty white stuff, so maybe not all bad.

Have ordered some K-seal as suggested so will see what that does. In the meantime, thanks for all the help :thumb2
