Hi everyone, Has anyone had an issue on pathfinder diesel injectors, On cold start up my engine sounds like its running on 3 cylinders and a fair bit of blue..ish smoke comes out the exhaust with a strong smell of diesel, this smooths out as the engine warms up, but if i put my foot down there is again a lot of blueish smoke,
The engine runs cool and uses no water, it has not consumed any engine oil in last 1500miles, so can rule out a head gasket issue, I suspect i have an injector that is dribbling and not spraying correctly, average fuel consumption over last 900 miles was 31mpg.
I have tried a few of the injector cleaners and have put in the expensive diesel at the pumps but still no improvement,
Question...
are these electronic injectors?
must they be replaced as sets?
do you need to program the ecu to accept new injectors?

in simple terms i suppose can I change them myself ?

Thanks in advance for your help :thumb2

OK I know nothing about pathfinders, so is it "common rail" (would help if you could post a pick of injectors and pump), but your description say to me more like you have a glow plug or two gone down, a lot cheaper and easier to do, "says he who has never seen one" Rick

Did some research, and yes yours is common rail, 4 injectors will set you back about £1200.00 plus fitting, so check those glow plugs first, Rick

My thoughts are look at the glow plugs first does the glow plug symbol stay on after you have started the engine and go out after a minute or so or does it go out when the engine has started ?
A delay in the light going out indicates one or more plugs is not working.

On most diesels the glow plug still has power going to it until the engine has warmed up substantially.
