I have peughot 307 2002 petrol
It has a trip computer but I recently ran out of petrol with 30KM left on the trip computer. Obviously the early ones are not so reliable. But now I am scared to go below half. If I ignore the trip computer how reliable or un reliable can the fuel gauge be?

Might be as well seeing how many miles on a tank full and using trip counter to estimate fuel. Just means resetting each time you fill up.

But would you think the gauge is still accurate I am scared to go below a quarter at the minute lol. Maybe I should treat quarter left as empty. That will be better for the car anyway right?

Assuming your guage read empty when you ran out I would personally trust that. When I refill my cars I reset the trip counter, for example I know my auto terrano will safely do 350 miles to a tank full. So when I'm getting towards 350 I know to fill up.
After your experience I would not trust the onboard computer estimating how many miles you have left in your tank. Also not a good idea to run it to the bottom of your tank, surely muck will build up at the bottom of the tank and get dragged through to the fuel system clogging the filter. Got told about that years ago and it sounds common sense doesn't it.

Yea I know best stay above a quarter just a bit stressed as my pregnant partner was in the car at the time. Suppose I shouldn't go below quarter at all at the moment

I was always told that electrics are the weak part of French cars, then I bought a Reno and spent hundreds on it. Heard loads of tales of problems with pugs, renos and citreons. That said heard some good tales of them too. Pity really because the scenic was a great car to drive and did loads of mpg too.

This 307 seems good touch wood!!! Just the fuel gauge/trip computer thing. Its done 480 km and I have half a tank left. I can't see it doing 1000km on a tank of petrol.
On the plus side it only failed it's french mot on 2 bulbs so I ain't got to worry about that for another 2 years
