Any reason not to buy one of these over the 2.7 ?

80k on it, do these have a belt instead of the timing chain found on the 2.7 ?

I assume everything else like running gear and gearbox are the same ?

Thanks

The 2.7 td /tdi is not chain driven, but gear driven, so bullet proof, the 2.7 engines are good for in excess of 200 k miles, without major surgery.

The 3 litre engine is the same as the patrol engine I think, but I know it's not gear driven though, possibly chain, but not too sure.

Pretty sure its a belt i used to like the idea of a chain til i had primera absolute nightmare would have belt anyday cheap and easy to change primera has multiple chains and guides and doesn't last life of engine like there supposed to

ZD30 is chain driven.

Check for smoke from the turbo, mine blew at 92,000, faulty oil pressure switch are known issue.

Everything else pretty much the same goes wrong as on the 2.7 :lol

I had a 3.0ltr until the other week no problems with engine did 180K miles.

see i avoid belts having had probably 5 snap in my lifetime
3 on an escort van 1.8 bloody nightmare. suppose thats why i love the 2.7 with the gear driven no wear and no snapping .

each the their own i guess

id like the alleged better mpg on the 3 litre (3 miles init ? )and possibly hold value longer. but very much doubt many other benefits of the 3 litre over the 2.7

think id prefer the gear driven and i suspect the 3 litre is common rail so going to cost a fortune if injectors start playing up

The only engines (ZD30DDTI) I've encountered in the R20 Terrano have been not been CR and fitted fitted with a VP44 type IP.

BTW the cam assembly is CHAIN driven.

both have pro's and cons BUT but very few. and not much in it .

3L
3mpg better
should hold value better

2.7
no belt or chain
easy to fix and source parts

but lets face it , your talking snorkels and big steel bumpers so the mpg aint going to be that great, nor will the re sale.

whatever you buy , just make sure its a loved one and been looked after, or you will be shelling out more than 3mpg .

Aye, mpg isn't a worry as i'm just getting rid of a peugeot expert hdi van, that I've tweaked and mapped etc and is 150bhp and does about 25mpg if I'm lucky :p

Grunt is good, so I'm edging towards a 3.0, it really is a buyers market at the moment tho, and so many about
