Looking for a replacement engine for my old girl, rebuild too expensive an option:(

Thanks Makeitfit, saw that the other day,bit of a job getting it from UK to here in France,if it were just the lump then not so bad:(

2.8 td are rare engines I think. Maybe worth bribing someone to drop the lump for you and sell off the shell for spares :nenau

Where are you in froggy land ? Anywhere near skiing area I could be tempted to deliver an engine :naughty

I'm down near Bergerac in the wine region:D,the guy with the bottom engines finally got back to me today,he has 2 at 300 euros each, one done 175,000km,the other 200,000km.The only thing I need for him to do is pressure test them, find out about postage(he's in Moselle about 900kms away!) then make a decision on which one.No skiing round here,no snow(yet). So keeping fingers crossed.

Think I've sourced one a bit closer less kms, fair price, just got to sort out the deal and collecting

Good news ;) Can I buy your old engine's bottom pulley please ? I need to modify one for my trol's super charger , but not been able to get one here with my mortgage as it is

Hi Makeitfit, probably won't be getting the engine sorted this side of Xmas, but I can't why not, will keep you posted:thumb2

Oops forgot to say "see",my old English teacher would be livid!

My old French teacher would be bloody amazed with me firstly living in France and secondly speaking French(reasonable):lol

Teacher was a "he",best teacher I had,he was blind and all taught by him using Braille and A level students/colleagues for marking/printing.He along with I think 6 other blind people were in a Panorama documentary starting when they were kids at a special school and then 20 years later to follow their progress. They came to film at my school think it was around 1977/8.Amazing guy,he used to go to Arsenal and follow the game with a friend who told him where the action was going and he followed it on a special touch board and by the noise of the crowd. He really could hear a pin drop!:bow

Heard from guy with the engine, picking it up end of month, coincides with garage owner getting back from the Dakar, not much fun driving a '96 Vectra, but as a stopgap not so bad

Getting excited, going to get my bottom engine Thursday and replacement dashboard, only 1120kms and 11hrs round trip!

Got the bottom engine, round trip of 1150kms,221 euros in fuel and tolls,12hrs driving.Left home at 3am and got back 15.30pm,unloaded engine and went home and had a couple of cans of Bombardier, dinner then bed!
