Hi guys decided to get the injectors in my trusty 2.8 checked and reconded as required.

Got No2 to No6 out no problem with a 27mm or 1" 1/16 deep socket:thumb2

When I turned my attention to No1 with the lift sensor which has not got flat faces to get a spanner on, as it is toothed like a ring spanner:eek: couldn't get a 27mm on it as its a 28mm I think and I've never seen a 28mm ring spanner:nenau

Any ideas on how to get it out as I don't want to break it as its £400 for anew one from Nissan.

ill make you 1 if you can draw it and put a picture with all dimensions up here.

how similar are they to Terrano injectors? I had to butcher up a 27MM socket to fit over the sensor:

thats a standard 27mm injector socket, but I cut out the bottom part to make the window full length. As far as I know, you cant get the correct socket for the injector, unless you make it. have to be accurate though, as cutting away the metal makes the socket less strong, and you have to be careful to cut away to correct amount. Too little, and it simply wont fit, too much, and as you attempt to loosen the injector, the socket may well slip (the teeth have to fit exact, otherwise no grip!)

Wire is on side of injector, if the socket is the correct size it should slide down past it:eek: well it looks as if it will, I hope:eek:

Failing that it will be getting chopped, but as already said it might open up when torque (me) is applied:augie:doh

I keep you posted

thats what I thought when I first got my injector, and I found it was the metal casing over the sensor that was the problem, as it protrudes beyond the circumference of the injector!

Will check it again in morning to make sure it fits:thumbs

No sorry , Ive never needed them but I have DEFINITELY seen them either there or at Sewells .

I reckon MM, The reason Im so sure is because I treated myself to some new sockets a bit back and when I was perusing the double depth ones I saw the ones with "cut outs"

Sewells also have a good range of obscure sockets (back wall on the right) and if they havent got one ill bet they can get one pdq :thumb2

Went to MM this morning and they were very unhelpfull:naughty

Would not sell me a single 28mm socket as they said they dont sell singles and they only sell kits of different injector removal tools, I knew they sold kits and single sockets after checking out the website. Guy tried to sell me a kit that was £100+ and was most surprised when I told him nicely to go and boil his heed.:augie

Ordered one from NPA in Stockton, but won't get it till Wednesday:doh

Well took other 5 injectors in to get serviced and they passed with flying colours, pressure and spray pattern within spec:thumbs wonder how they new what the pressure should be as he never wrote down the car engine etc or do they get that from the injector part number:nenau

I'm turning into a right suspicious t**t as I get older:augie

we job is done:thumb2 what a pain.

As clivvy said there is no socket on the market:nenau well I couldn't find one.

The 2 I ordered with the cut out window, 27 & 28mm arrived and the 28 was 2 big and 27 would not go over the sensor metal cover, so I took them back and got 2x 27mm bi-torx sockets that were on the self, 1 stated it was for an injector and the other just a standard socket:nenau

Butchered the fist one so it would miss the sensor and when torque (me) applied just spread open:doh

Butchered the 2nd one and took just enough to clear sensor and the same thing happened, but this time when it slipped it slightly crushed the sensor protective metal cover:doh I thought there goes £400:surrenderso I said it needs to come out now. Well managed to get a 27mm deepset ring spanner over the sensor and had about 1 " clearance to loosen it and boy was the T**t tight. Put on the socket and got it out, still worried that I had killed it:doh took it to service centre and watched the guy test it and it was fine:thumb2 boxed it all up and started engine expecting that it would throw a MIL fault, but all is well:bow:bow:bow no diesel leaks and its running fine.

Only reason I wanted the injectors checked because I thought it was using way too much fuel @ £60 for half a tank and getting about 12/15mpg when towing:eek:so I disconnected my diesel performance chip thats supposed to give more power and save fuel:nenau and I'll see what happens next time its towing nearly 2tonne:nenau
So I've stuck on a turbotech manual boost controller to increase boost to max 15psig and the turbo is spooling up faster.

Think my problem is heavy right foot and it doesn't help when you jump out of a Merc E280 into a Patrol:augie

Based on todays observation, quite possibly :augie

Come on Dave, I was only doing 60mph obeying the national speed limit when you saw me:lol That was my first run after boxing up the engine checking EGT and boost with the chip still connected:augie Did another 10mins later with it disconnected and it was much the same with the boost controller attached, will see what its like with the van on the back:nenau

:bow:bow:bow
