Hi, new to Nissan ownership.
Just got a 98 SW T2 2.7TD.

Looking advice on improving BHP&Torque.

Was thinking about remap.

Any tips and advice please.

Thanks Mitch:thumb2

First thing I did was put on a k&n air filter. Had to remove the air box. The member "make it fit" has done a lot of mods:thumbs

To start with what have you got ? TD or TDi with intercooler. Either way a "remap" aint going to happen as if you've got the TDi one the ECU is too old skool :doh
How much you wanna spend :lol

tdi intercooler
So no remap, not fussed about the cost, just want some advise on the basics:)

Of all the mods I've done to the engine the one putting the biggest smile on me face has to be LPG injection :sly Flippin' awesome :naughty
Basics though, block off egr, KnN air filter (in the air box) or induction if not offroading. Get a Tunit or PSI powerbox, both will cheat the ecu and advance the pump a bit and get you about 20-25 BHP. After that a decent turbo down pipe in 2 1/2" then straight through exhaust. erm, see my pics and threads for more :lol

TDi tune

Done the filter (K&N , in filter box for off road) , I'll call Tunit on Monday, can't find a UK supplier for PSI.

Changed the oil and filters today as well and cleaned the MAF.

Run's well, little mis at about 2k rpm, but other than that, really smooth, better than my previous discovery :).

Any real benefit's in shorting the actuator arm ?

Not unless you do the Tunit/PSI mod first, again upping the boost on it's own wont do a lot but make more noise :lol
As part of an overall package, like bigger exhaust and fueling mods then yes. Even so max about 15psi I think.

Ask Tunit for a price on their "refurbed" units :thumbs
Have you modified the actual air intake to the air box? As there's a hell of a restriction there

TDi

Yeh, I've taken off the plastic feed pipe that goes forward to a hole in the wing behind the grill.
I'll ask for the refurb when I speak to them , cheers for the tip.:thumb2

Hmmm, it must be a newer than '98 model then . I contacted loads of remap companies and was told the old ecu was not doable  I do believe you can have the chip taken out and others put in but mega bucks, you might as well get a new ecu.
That said I will contact the company mentioned and see what they say.
145 bhp isn't that much from a remap either? You'll get that with a power box :augie and a lot less money.
Ah well lets see what happens tomorrow :thumbs

Just read a bit more about the T2 in question. It's a 05 plate so there :p
However the tuning company can take your own ecu and take the chip out and stick in another .......................BUT.................the guy who does it has had an accident and no jobs being done at the mo :doh
Rats :(

T2 Tune

That is cheap compared to the £430 Tunit box I was quoted today.
But I don't think this remap is possible on my '98 model :(

Yes but you will get one for about 250 quid refurb :thumb2
I too spoke to the remap guys today and confirm that pre 2001 forget it. It must be OBD compliant. The other option is a re- chip  Again about 380 quid but still only gets you about 30 bhp.
So I'd forget it and go Tunit or PSI they DO work and chuck out about 20 bhp maybe more if you believe the hype :D
Put a saved search on fleabay as they do turn up frequently, you may even be able to get one from euro zone cheap at the mo as the euro is weak against the pound :sly

2.7tdi

The guy at Tunit has a p/x coming in, their going to call me with a price for that (refurb)
Fingers crossed:thumbs

Power

Thanks for all the advice, the best one I had on a pm was check the "MAF".
Not having owned a T2 2.7 before I had no idea what they should pull like, I just knew it felt a bit gutless.
Picked up a new BOSCH MAF from Theron (member) on here, fitted it tonight, it's a different vehicle. I can't believe the change.
mmm, do I need to tune:lol
