2.7 Tds Starting Problems, Glow Plugs?

Had my 2001 (X reg) Terrano a couple of years and done pretty well nothing to it.
Anyway it's hard to start, from cold it needs easy start so I'm thinking glow plugs or controller. Once it's warm it starts dead easily.
Can anyone tell me where to find the glow plug relay/control unit/fuse?

Probably just 1 glow plug down

Try turn in on. Just dont start
see if on plug feels cold.


They are simple to change just go carful with the nuts

I have a BMW with 4 failed glow plugs (good job it has 6 cylinders) and it still starts on the button so I doubt it's one failed glowplug. I'll check the relay etc.

no comparison I am afraid, the T2 has relatively low compression ratio so needs all the plugs working for efficient starting, put a volt meter on the plug connecting strip with the glow plug light on you should see 11 to 12 volts indicating the relay is OK, to test the plugs remove the strip and measure the resistance of each one, good will read near zero ohms, bad will read open or very high ohms, Rick

Just as rick says we had citroen picasso had all 4 glow pugs gone changed them all made no difference as thay only opperate at below -5:doh

It may also be glowplug relay which did not switch off and burnt all your glowplugs.
Check that as well.

I had the same problem with mine last winter.
I changed the plugs it was still the same.
changed the relay :thumb2 job done

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but our 1.6hdi 110 hp Picasso has started to run rough on start up, bit of smoke, and sounds as if it's running on three cylinders, but when warm after a minute, all is well. Car is 05 reg, and just clocked 100k Always starts first turn of the key, no fault codes.:nenau

I too suspected the glow plugs, then found out that they are rarely used unless really cold, and I looked at the work necessary just to get to them to test them let alone replace them, is horrendous :doh as they are at the back of the engine, and the air filter module, and inlet manifold have to be removed just to see them...:doh

So if the glow plugs are not required at start up on mild mornings any ideas what it could be?

At the moment it is not causing any further issues as the smoke clears within a minute of start up.

I have also done two tanks with diesel redX just in case it was the injectors, but made no difference.

Ours was the 2.0hdi 90 bhp we have 307 now with same engine.Doesnt have all the new gadgets fitted to the newer engines
