Well after going on and on about the merits of a terrano to a mate of mine hes now looking to relace his bonnet up (discovery) for a nissan terrano he asked me the best one to go for for all round driving my 2.7 is superb and takes a right hammering when green lanning but any one got any experience of the 3.0? is it a good lump according to stats it better of fuel

2.7, does the job and most bits for it is easier to get and cheaper.

Also jobs on the engine are quicker.

From what I've read and the stores I've heard Id give the 3.0 a miss seems to be a lot less reliable than the 2.7 One of the lads I used to work with got a 3.0 last year and had that much trouble and expense he got rid. Put him off Terrano,s for life.

Hi Venture
There have been a couple of previous threads on this subject, you may wish to search for them to get more info.
Having had both the 2.7 and now a 3ltr, in my experience, the latter wins hands down. It has greater power and is better on fuel. I'm given to understand that it is the Patrol engine and has a chain driving the timing gear.

ZD30 DDTi is a chain!

spot on, about only part we didnt replace on my old troll...

that said by time 3.0 got to terrano, 2004? onwards the
teething troubles found in the earlier trolls were sorted.

but the parts and the service times are longer, so have to
consider is a few mpg worth it in long run.

if needed more power think id chip the 2.7 but then the
stock 2.7 does everything i ask, like our 1700kg twin axle
over the pennines.

I have owned a 2005 3.0 since new and after 80k miles the only engine problem has been the high speed oil pressure senser (I am now on number 4). It aveages 33mpg day to day but on a run it gets nearer to 40mpg if driven with a light right foot.
Towing is a dream loads of power and pleanty of torque. The engine also seems a lot quieter than the 2.7L and it is very easy to pass the legal speed limit with 150+ bhp under the bonnet.
Service intervals are at 9k miles and is easy as several parts are in more converient locations. Changing the replacable element in the oil filter housing is made very easy by the built in funnel and pipe to duct the wast oil into the drip tray.
The down side is they cost slightly more and some companies charge more for insurance.

Thanks guys i will pass your comments on it seems like on every subject people opions differ
