2.4 Petrol Wont Start HELP!!!!! :-(

Hi All,

Well after 3 years of ownership and only been used once in a while my 1997 2.4 Petrol T2 actually failed to start today, never put a foot wrong before.

Had an issue the other day when the Engine Management light flashed and wouldn't start, thought it was down to using the wrong key as later tried another key and it turned over and did start and run, whereas before it turned over, started then died.

Yesterday I turned the Key and although all the lights did what they should (Engine Managment light didn't flash) it didn't even turn over, took the battery off and charge that up over night but still no change.

Nats Light on top of dash flashed until Key is inserted then goes out so don't think that parts ok.

Help!!! lol

if it does not even turn over then ignition switch/starter solenoid, do your dash lights come on? and what happens when you turn the key to start, also put the head lights on and turn the key if they die then battery problems or bad connections, going to bed now, Rick

Hi,

Sorry not got back sooner, all dash lights come on as normal, when you turn the key nothing happens, won't try to turn the engine over.

If I put the lights on and turn ignition then lights remain ok.

sounds like the ignition switch not making contact to the starter solenoid or the starter solenoid itself, check that the spade terminal is still on the starter first if it is and you have a test meter connect the meter between earth and the solenoid wire and get someone to turn the key if you get 12 volts then it would look like the solenoid but not conclusive unless you leave it connected as it will be off load, but leaving it connected is more difficult to do, if you have no voltage then it is the switch or the wire, Rick

Well looks like the Starter motor is shot..

Now just gotta find the best place to source one from.
