Hi all, last week I jumped into my terrano and it just turned over. As the fuel light was on I thought it could be a bad guage so I added 3 cans of petrol with no luck. I've now replaced the dizzy and cap and that's about as far as my mechanical knowledge and tools go! A friend is going to come round and help me check for spark and fuel. It's strange as it drove back ok, sat on the driveway for a day now this. Before it didn't even miss a beat! I will keep u updated

Wish I could help more with the diag procedures of the Petrol beast but having never owned one and only ever having Diesels I'm probaly about as clueless as you.

Look forward to your findings, eb sure to report back when you work it out so we can learn too :naughty

Not a fueling issue is it? Rick mentioned the pumps on these are in the tank rather than on the engine like the Diesels?

i have no idea, also the problem i have is whenever i get home its dark! gonna hopefully sort it out on saturday!

If it had run out of petrol it might take considerable cranking to get it going first time.
You will know if fuel is getting through as when you remove a spark plug it should be wet with petrol.
If the plugs are bone dry then its lack of fuel for one of a myriad of reasons. If the plugs are wet then it might be lack of spark.

Fuel pump is in the tank, if you ran out then the lines will be dry, on turning on the ignition the pump only runs for a second or two during cranking until the engine starts so repeated ignition on off is needed to prime the system, you can pull a rubber pipe on the fuel manifold to see if the pump is delivering, when you run out it is pos that tank debris block the filter or worse jams the pump, Rick

I'll go and have another play about with it tonorrow, I can hear the pump for a few seconds when the ignition is on like u say.

update, went out today and onj trying to start it backfired, which says to me theres fuel and spark, changed the leads and it runs :) thanks for all your help, just sounds a bit tappety when cold, can there be adjusted?

I know that the 2.7 can be adjusted, relevant clearances should be in the workshop manual.

I'd advise grabbing a decent set of feeler gauges but I'm sure I'll be blazed down in a ball of fire and told they are a waste of money and to use cardboard or something :nenau

no feelers the way to go,if i remember tappets set when hot but rick might put you right.
