Point is am I expecting too much at £900? opinion wanted, Rick

On this forum I'd say £900 isn't too much because we all know how knowledgable you are on these cars , so, if I was in the market for car car I'd strongly consider it, obviously that won't be the case on eBay though because potential buyers won't know you.

That said I wonder if the fact it's a petrol and the mileage are what's putting people off? Maybe people only want diesels? Might be better just to keep bumping up the forum occasionally and hold out for the money cos I think on here is your best chance if getting the money you want for it, unless you're in a hurry to sell.

I remember this motor, good looking motor, hopefully someone will grab it, you've certainly looked after it :thumb2

well all takes time does it not, so wanted to sell it with a long mot so took it in today and it failed on emissions (last thing I thought) so they wanted to put a Lambda sensor on and a new cat without really knowing what the problem was, total £370 plus vat, I told them I will look at it and bring it back so wait and see tomorrow folks for the results, Rick

I will be hooking it up to the laptop tomorrow and checking the readings, Rick

OK hooked up the lappy and ran ECUtalk, only looked at the O2 sensor, the air flow, air temp, swirl valve, throttle position, timing, and EGR solenoid.

I have two other petrols to compare it against as most times the numbers are meaningless, so air flow, other cars idling around 2, blip throttle to the floor and both hit 4 for an instant, failed car around 1.5 barely hitting 2.5 with throttle, so problem there, O2 sensor once all three were normal running temp then floating quickly between 0.2 and 0.8 more than 4 times a second, I picked up on this as on another forum US versions of the ECU have a tell tale light which if the O2 sensor is OK it should flash more than 4 times a second, so that seems to equate with mine, so O2 sensor OK, all other readings were near enough the same apart from timing which was a little retarded, so sorted that, It is worth a comment here that if anyone uses a timing light on these you have to disconnect the throttle position switch to get an accurate reading, so back to the maf, thought it would be dirty, but no not so, so fitted another, checked it with ECUtalk and now same as others, air filter good, plug gaps a bit wide, and cleaned the distributor, you may be wondering why I included the EGR solenoid as my EGR is blanked, what I wanted to see was if the EGR is activated on these tests, and not it is not, only for a split second if the throttle is opened rapidly which if you are trying to achieve a steady 2.5 to 3k steady revs you are unlikely to do.

blasted it up the road, and took it in again, guess what, no problem, I have not seen the numbers but emissions have passed, all they have to do now is a bit of welding that I could not do on the ground, it is near a body mount on the inner sill and too hard for me on my back, I really will have to get a post lift probably in the barn as need the height cos if I cannot stand up straight my back will suffer, trouble is it is a bit draughty, not so good for MIG, and while I am on the subject my "Y" size bottle now costs nearly £100 a year rent plus about £60 a refill, probably 2 a year, have to find a way round this, Rick
