Along with a few other folks the fan now only works on the highest setting.
I've checked the fuses and they are OK.

I've also had a look at the workshop 18 sheet showing how to change the resister on a 2.7.

The one on mine is behind the glove box.
It's a bit like a metal matchbox with holes inside this small metal cage are some simple coiled wire elements.
There is a part number of 59710 40 stamped on it.

Can anyone please confirm whether this is the Heater Speed Control Resistor and if so where can I get another one from?

I'll try and post a couple of Pics of the hole, connector and what I think is the resistor.

And here's the "matchbox" which I think is the speed control resister?

OOO and me please :D
There used to be some kind of resistor fix for that but cant find the thread at the mo:doh
How much then boyo?

Ah now then you see I dont mind spanners and hammers but those fiddly little strippy wired things confuse me and then I burn me fingers:doh

I work with electronics, I might open it tommorow.

I've seen several fixes on YouTube where they solder across a couple of contacts but that's on the flat type of resistor, like the one in Workshop 18, but I've not seen anything which applies to the Matchbox type which I've got in my 2.4.

If you Google Resistor Fix you should find some.
As this seems to be a relatively common problem due to the age that these vehicles are getting to?

Hope this helps,
Bern

My 2.4 Mk 2 has the flat plate type, I have a couple of Mk 1 s in the yard, I will try and have a look this eve but it is cold out there, Rick

Rick,

You're telling me.
I'm a freelance gardener and these days take every opportunity I get to have a bonfire.

I've had the following info from a chap called Bill Turner at Blower-Motor-Resistor Co Uk
"Yours is one type I have not had for repair therefore I would be unable to help .However if you can see in the can and there is a thermal type fuse inside then it is quite likely this has gone open circuit .If you could replace it you would get one from Maplins. To identify if there is one or not in the can. Have a look at thermal fuses on the maplin site where there is a picture of the device. The temp cut out value would be on the side of the fuse"

Is yours like the one in the pic thought they were differnt in the later trucks

Just in case the replacement I'm getting goes the same way as the original due to it's age - is there a way of fixing these older resistors or even replacing them with something newer?

For those who have helped.

Resistor replaced, in less than 10 mins, and fan now working on all setting.

Jobs a good'un, :clap :clap :clap

Many thanks,

Zippy,

This is one provided by cncfab.
I'm going to ask fez to take a gander at the faulty one and see what magic he can perform to repair it so I have a backup.

Thanks for your help with this,
Bern
