2.0 petrol xtrail, chain or belt driven timing?

Belt or Chain
Just dropped on this post with no reply. I do not know your particular engine but if it is belt driven it is usually pretty obvious when you open the hood and look at the engine.
If it is belt driven the belt will be enclosed for safety and to prevent debris/containments from damaging the belt. So if there is a good sized plastic casing usually black from the top of the rocker cover area down to the bottom pulley at one end of the engine then its a belt.
Chain driven camshafts need oil lubrication and covers form part of the main engine casing so when you look at the bottom pulley instead of a plastic cover over the belt you will instead see metal usually aluminium concealing the chain so it looks integral to the engine unit.
I am sure by now you will have worked that out.

Welcome mate not many Xtrails on here but the manual is in the downloads, I tried to get it, but it will not extract for me, no idea why, just tells me to reboot and try again, tried it twice, perhaps someone else can give it a go, Rick

QR20DE is simplex chain driven like the QR25.
Chains can and do stretch after 90k.. listen for a rattle at cold start before the hydraulic tensioner takes up the slack. When it gets past a certain point the ECU will flag a Crank to Cam timing sync discrepancy and enter limp mode.
Oil changes need to be kept up with very strictly.

Took a 2.5 sport from 9k to 95k.

Have to admit not many X-Trail owners on here that I know of
We only need "ric g" to pop back in again. Mind you his post was last October, his last visit was 9th November.
