1st time pulling a caravan

I towed a caravan for the 1st time with the Maverick today, it feels a lot more secure than pulling with a car, the mav feels in control apposed to the van bouncing the car all over the place :thumbs

It is definitely one of the best cars I have ever towed with, doesn't seem to car what you put on the back.

The one I was most impressed was 120 miles with the Volvo 480, on a two wheel towing dolly... had to keep reminding myself it was on the back.

The Tow with Terrano

I have just arrived in South of France e route to Cambrils in Spain.this was my first tow with the vehicle . I have a 2003 2.7tdi LWB. 800 miles
Pulls like a dream,averaging 26mpg at 55-60 mph. Pulling Burstner caravan 1300kgs.
I am sure I could get a better return at 50 mph.
Tomorrow we head into Spain, it will be a good test of both vehicle and caravan as there are 35mph winds forecast,.
I am confident that it will behave well under these windy conditions. Has anyone experience towing in windy conditions

We towed both to and from Anglesey in high gusty winds at Christmas/New Year, going up was worse. It was a case of you could feel it, and had to compensate for the fact it was trying to push you across the road, but it was easily controllable, not like that sudden, you are on the other side of the road before you knew what hit you, like the Volvos did.

totally agree, no problems when towing, even forget the vans on the back sometimes, the only thing i would keep an eye on is the handbrake, make sure it is adjusted regular as stopping on a hill with the mavs handbrake can be a bit .....ooh er is it going to hold.

just got back from my first tow with the same t2 320mls and did not know i was towing,had to drop to 3ed two times up long grades up in the dales.well impressed apart from the fuel used compared to my zx.

Is your ZX more economical towing the van?

The T2 definitely tows a dream, and so far it is probably the most economical vehicle while towing, I have towed with.

i have to say that my favourite towing vehicle for caravans is a rear wheel drive transit van. But a T2 comes a close second, and is the best 'all rounder' 4x4 i have ever owned!

I find the caravan does not make a huge difference, other than I drive slower and smoother. Provided you are not in a hurry, sticking to 50-55mph, and let the car coast down the hills, role up the hills, and tuck in behind the lorry's when you can, you can do pretty well, I got 26 MPG coming back from Anglesey in the new year.

Hope your right lazy=ferret cos only got about 30 pulling the caravan with my saab, so baring in mind it'll be running on a mix of veggi oil, diesel it could work out a bit more economical than than my car

I've found that when towing I tend to drive more smoothly, like I should all the time, and therefore get reasonable MPG, if nowt else, the T2 has already broken most of the wind resistance, before your van, unlike the average slippery saloon car.
