Hi All

Wondering if any one can give a few ideas as to what may be happening.

Basically when moving off in 1st, there is a definite, severe judder between 1000-1500 revs. It only occurs in 1st. It is only intermittent - usually drives fine and has happened twice only.

All other gears are fine and there is no clutch slip. It has happened both times when cold and fine once all is warmed up.

Anyone any ideas?? I was thinking maybe flywheel or clutch. Then Bro inlaw said maybe engine mount. Or could it be something to do with 4WD - i have been using alot in the ice lately - could it be sticking???

Any ideas
Thanks
Lee

oh i should also say that all the levels/oil is good - they were all changed 10 weeks ago at the service.

hi lee, check the engine mountings, i think extreme had this problem, :thumb2

are you ruling out a misfire at around this rev count that plenty of trucks seem to have as it first becomes evident in first when setting off tentatively, mine does it but no misfire or juddering(which is a symptom of the misfire) if you set off with plenty of revs or foot to the floor which keeps the engine under load.

Thanks for the reply.

I had thought about it but it is so intermittent. In the cold weather my T2 always takes a few seconds to get going but never ever felt it when driving as a judder on first. And also it will judder when the engine is soundign normal.

Probably not much help to you here but I can get a sort of judder on starting off at times if just after knocking it out of 4wd on startup. Mine does seem to stick a bit and take a bit of wrestling with the shift lever to click out of 4wd at times. But this is not totally abnormal I would have thought and you should be able to tell if it's anyting to do with 4wd sticking by whether the 4wd light is on on the dash or not.
Only other time I had a judder on start off / move off was when one brake shoe in rear drum broke off and wedged under other shoe. But the wheel locked up totally so its unlikely to be anything like that.

Thanks for the reply mate. I did wonder if it might be the 4WD since I dont normally reverse after taking it out, since I will do it next time whilst reversing out of the drive. So it may well have been a ???sticky hub. dont know if this is possible or if the 4wd did not disengage fully.
