can anyone help....fuel filter warning lamp has come on suggesting water in the fuel...have opened the valve at the bottom of the filter housing but no water came out...also pumped the piston to no avail....engine starts and runs fine....undone connector of filter housing to loom and light goes out....
new fuel line, injector pump and fuel filter fitted 200 miles ago...

also..

does the glow plug warning light always come on ? since the above has happened i noticed that the light goes out straight away in miliseconds or dosent even light at all...

sounds like a earth fault to me, and the other instruments are feeding back through each other, like when you have an earth fault on a trailer and the stop lights flash dimly for and with the indicators, Rick

The Tdi ecu controls lots of things, unlike the TD where everything is hard wired in the older conventional way. I would suspect it was the connector on the ecu or timer playing up.

Most of the time you will find it is a connector with poor connections.
But the problem is ... which one :nenau

ok thanks..ther glow plug light is now ok...low battery...

but the water in the fuel light is still on despite no water coming out the drain plug even when its pumped and the car runs fine...

Float has got stuck would be my guess...

glow plug light is ecu controlled on the TDI but even with a very hot engine it will still come on for ~1 second before going out.
