Hi new to the forum and after some help.

Just replaced my old L- reg 2.7 td lwb terrano with newer 1998 2.7tdi swb van and have the following problem with it.

The engine starts and runs fine on idle, but when you rev the engine it has a slight missfire between 1500 -2500 rpm. When driving it seems gutless as if the turbo is not working and really sluggish. when you come to an incline in the road you loose speed and power drops off. The car will still do 60-70 down the motorway but takes it time to get there.

I have change the MAF as these cause problems but it has made no difference. I did get a cheap one from ebay so not ruleing out it may still be the MAF.
Have run nissan data scan on if and got the following fault codes:-
code 18 which came up unknown
the code for the knock sensor (will get the number tomorrow)
the code for fuel temperature sensor (will get the number tomorrow)
Not sure how good these codes are but any help will good.

thanks in advance.

Nissan data scan is a good software but is unfortunately aimed at petrol engined vehicles, so the resultant fault codes require a lot of interpretation!
As you seem to have the required interface I suggest you download Ecutalk from here:
http://www.ecutalk.com/downloads/ECUTalk_v1.3.5.exe
This Consult s/w has been written for Nissan diesels and the fault code reporting will be far more meaningful.

Still sounds like erroneous MAF may be the cause though, but in any case ecutalk will tell you for sure.

maf is an expensive first move, can be tested easily though so do that next. Symptoms are same as mmine so check mini filter for blockas and fuel lines for air leaks.

Got the Maf for less than £40.00 so it will do as a spare? Will be checking MAF wiring today and the fuel line and filters.

Thanks for the help

As metioned above mini filter, workshop 10

Your symtoms match mine, I took the mav back to the dealer, he fixed it, but sulked a lot.:lol:lol
going to cheack that today.

Just checked the fault codes with the other software as advised and get the following fault codes.

Code 42 Fuel temp sensor (perminant Fault)
code 34 needle lift sensor (perminant Fault)
Code 18 fuel quantity ajuster/position sensor - malfunction (intermitant fault)

Check fuel temp found to be at -7 degree which is way wrong going to carry out wiring checks on these proplems and will also check the workshop 10 artical.

Thanks again guys will let you know how i get on.

ok quick update.

fault code 42 fuel temp sensor - was a broken wire in the loom and not a problem with the pump. the needle lift sensor is open circuit so will fit one tomorrow and it should be happy days.

will let you know.

FYI:
Bosch injectors use an inductive sensor (coil) which should read ~100 ohms or so.
Zexel injectors appear to use a piezo sensor, these will not show a DC reading with a meter; they will appear open circuit.
