Thinking of getting a 1994 TD 3door maverick for her indoors,got 140,000on the clock had recon gearbox and new clutch 4,000 ago.what is the TD engine like and has it got gear driven camshaft?.

Early ones were the best better made and less rust.Gear driven cam same as tdi

yep rock solid engine, gear driven camshaft, with push rods and rockers, as long as it has not been overheated, once this happens head gaskets become a problem, but mechanical pump so none of the fly by wire problems, Rick

What sort of mpg do you get compared to the tdi.

Mines a '94, I get around 25-27 around town, 29-33 on a run.

My 1998 terrano 2.7tdi lwb i'm getting about 28 running around and 34 on long runs that's not having a lead foot.

I get about 18 mpg if im lucky

And the vanilla TD27 is not electronic fly by wire which is a bonus too.
