Yeah that's what the guy from Opie told me, but it is a running in oil and I'm not sure if there is anything 'extra' in the oil for running in. Short term use, then drain and refill

Last thing I want is to be bedding in my engine :nenau

In the 70's Audi used running in oil in all new Audi 80 & 100 models- it contained a very mild abrasive to smooth off the bores etc !!

I've tested this twice in 2 different vehicles and I'm telling you straight there is an audible difference is the way they resonate at different rev ranges

Well I convinced myself just the oposite when I used Shell Helix in my Mini !!

I use 5w40 fully synthetic in the patrol no smoke out the back no funny noises and no top ups between changes. I buy the Halfords own diesel only version no problems what so ever. I know mine is a Patrol but the later versions of yours have the 3.0 I thought.

Run mine on 5/30 semi synthetic universal tractor oil for the past three years but nearly all the 25l drum used up so I'll go to local motor factors when its gone. These engines aren't picky but change regularly and a filter. David.

10w40 semi synthetic is fine & have been using it for nearly 2 years & is cheaper than the mineral where I go but have used mineral in my last T2

You usually find Carlube at Morrisons, I wouldn't use it :nenau

The industry is gradually moving away from mineral oils, in ten years it may not be possible to buy it in the EU. The pollutants from hydrocarbon mineral oils are rather nasty not only when burned and inhaled but also in contact with skin. There is a link with the dreaded C word

Thanks for the info. According to the manufacturer a rather modest performance is requested over wide range of possible viscosities. Based on this information we can confirm X-Flow Type MF 15W-40 is suitable for this application. Please note, the main difference of a 15W-40 compared to a 10W-40 is a slightly thicker oil on start up during the colder months of the year. The positive being more protection, the down side less fuel efficiency.
