smoke dose anyone know how to replace valve guides on a 2.8 y61 patrol

has anyone had the head off a y61 2.8 diesel engine, if so is it a big job ? I would like some hints and tips on replacing valve guides. my y61 is smoking like hell going down long steep hills.
