heartbroken and sorry to you all .....the story

Just read through this and tbh the big end theory does make sense, especially if the noise gets worse on light load (coasting after brief acceleration),or when the engine is hot.Can they rig up an oil pressure gauge or do an oil drain and check for swarf?

    Blue lens fog lights?

Just been looking through the photo gallery (first time),and on the first page is a Mistral, same colour as mine, but has blue front fogs.Silly question - are these road legal, are they tinted/painted or bought new this colour? Mine are yellow - not sure if they are factory or aftermarket -...

Leak from boot seal - please help!

The whole rear of my car is soaked and it's down to a bad leak coming in from the boot lid.I asked the missus to spray the hose over the top,at the roofline and at the hinge side it's running down the reveal, but instead of running out at the bottom (as the other side does),it ALL comes...

    corrosion/damp under rear seat

I've just found a recent repair to my Mistral, under the rear seat base near to the seatbelt mounting, and pretty close to the rear spring:( The good news is that it is a very good repair, seam welded in and fully sealed, but the area is still damp and the soundproofing under the carpet has...

    towing with an auto

My Mistral is going well now after a few tweaks but i haven't tried towing my van yet. It's a 980KG van so am hoping it will cope ok (Any idea of towing limit with the 2.7 TD Auto?) Thing is,i've read about the need for an oil cooler.I've looked underneath as i'm not sure if it has one but am...

    What's next on the list?

I used a long telescopic magnet to get the banjo bolt out, then borrowed a gizmo off a mate which is basically a long rod with little grabbing claws that come out when you push the other end, perfect for the job.(think Buck and Hickman sell them)The filter needed an hour in a sonic bath to clear...

    What's next on the list?

2 weeks into ownership - i didn't really think i had much wrong with my truck as i've never driven one before (never driven a 4x4 in 22 yrs of driving actually!) So glad i found this place - so far i've fitted a k@n,cleaned out the almost completely blocked micro filter, done the mech pump...

Keeping overdrive on all the time (economy)

When i bought by truck i was told by the previous owner that keeping overdrive on permanently, even for short trips around town would help economy by about 3mpg? A work collegue stated the opposite - that the engine will labour more at low revs and work harder, any thoughts please?

    2.7 TD Mechanical Tuning

Thanks Timbo, Had a quick look at mine and it seems that i don't have a smoke screw either, just a plain cap with no prise out centre. So i'm planning to drill/tap and put my own screw in with locknut/sealing washer. When i come to adjust, should i wind the screqw down until i feel it just...

    2.7 TD Mechanical Tuning

Hi guys, sorry to jump on board here - i plan on doing this at the weekend.I understand that 1/4 turn on the diapragm is about right to keep EGT's low but is it also 1/4 on the smoke screw,or 180 degrees as the link states?.Do i adjust both or is it either one method or the other? I would like...
