Bit of an update. Adjusted front wheel bearings, auto hubs ok. Tried it in 4wd in a straight line on a dry road for approx 20 meters and I could feel trans winding up a bit. Havent been offroad and the snow,s dissapeared now, when I do I will report back on the forum. Front and back tyre...

    Slight play in front hub

Hi LACROUPADE, you need to adjust your wheel bearing up a tad by the looks of it. Easy enough to do, take the free wheeling hub off and you will see a circlip holding a backplate in position. remove then you can get at the lock plate on the wheel nut. Take the two small screws out and adjust the...

    Torque steer in 4 WD.

TERRANOSAURUS, noticed the lift when I had a quick look yesterday but the joints just looked like they were swivelling a bit not sloppy with freeplay. That bar was lifting a bit though. When dropped it back off the jack and turned the steering wheel back and fore a little, there was no visable...

LSD diff gone!!! :( Please help?

Probably cheaper to have yours repaired or buy second hand. I had a Detroit locker fitted to a 90 landy and I found this To be absolutely awsome. It still allows the outer wheel to rotate faster than the inside when driving on the road but its a fit and forget mod. No compressor and pipework, no...

    Torque steer in 4 WD.

When I adjust wheel bearings I will be able to check/clean and grease auto hubs. If anyone else has any ideas about this head them this way. Thanks Teebird.

    Torque steer in 4 WD.

Lacroupade, jacked front wheels, hold top and bottom of wheel and rock it back and fore. There is movement I will try to adjust out ( Tighten hub nut) The hill senario Just made it feel a lot worse but it does it driving along the flat. Its not wheel spinning its pulling side to side...

    Torque steer in 4 WD.

Hi guys, It feels as if it is being pulled one way and then the other. Its not like play in the steering, in 2wd it feels good. Its as if drive is going from one side to the other on the front when in 4wd. I know the front diff does this when grip is unequal but you can feel it when its on a...

    Torque steer in 4 WD.

Has any body else experienced this? In 2wd it feels as it should, steers nice, drives smooth and pulls up straight on the brakes. As soon as 4wd is in use (4 wh) you can feel the steering pulling from side to side ( like a front wheel drive car if you mule it in first gear.) I get this on snow...

    Limited slip diff

You carn,t beat Sunday lunch in the west end cafe. Up around there very regularly on the road bikes. S/f sounds good. Can you do it on road tyres? I got new A/T on the back but just road tyres on the front. Would be interested in doing that at some point though. There is always enduro...

    Limited slip diff

Lacroupade where do you live then? Only bought the truck for the winter really. Dont mind having a play on any non damaging stuff. Dont want to fill it with muddy water or knocklumps off it. Did that to my last 4x4 (SWB landcruiser, no LSD but good offroad)

    Limited slip diff

LACROUPADE, I live in RISCA which is just outside Newport. To be fair I have only been on the mountain local to me which was deep in snow. It perform well enough on the tyres fitted. Bit disappointed with the LSD, I thought it would spin then lock. Used to have a 90 landy many moons ago and had...

    Limited slip diff

Nice one LACROUPADE that explaines it then. Not that much help for offroading then really as it says in the wite up. Thanks again.

    Limited slip diff

Going back to the original question. Should theLSD slip then lock or just slip less than a normal diff? Whats the verdict on this one. Carn,t see it being that much help if it still slips. Tony

    Limited slip diff

Me again. All you guys with the AVM manual hubs, when they are locked on can you come out of 4W>High back into 2W drive without stopping and reversing a bit?

    Limited slip diff

Surely the 4 wheel drive is selected via the transfer g/box not the hubs, auto or manual. Thanks for the replies so far. Tony.

    Limited slip diff

Thanks for the replies, my thought was that it slipped so much then locked up. Forgot to mention that it selects 4w high easey on the move but will not come out of it unless i stop and reverse 2 feet even on snow and ice. Any ideas, its got free wheeling hubs. Tony

    Limited slip diff

Hi everyone, new member here. Been lurking for about a month or so, good forum. I have a 97 swb terrano bought about six weeks ago. Need info on the diff, the limited slip is working ok under light loads but when you cross Axel it the wheel with the least resistance will spin. Its the same if...

Engine running cool and heater not working correctly

Hi , my 97 tdi was exactly the same as that when I bought it 3 weeks ago. Fitted a new thermostat (£8 from our local motor factors) Now it warms up quick and the temp guage goes to half way and stays there. Heater is lovely and warm. Hope this helps. Teebird.
