Yes there is a mat in the boot. The issue is that the front hinges never seem to lock in place so the seat is never secure on the two lugs they mate to. So the seat will rest in place but as soon as any lateral pressure is applied it becomes unsecured. I don't remember seeing any red items...

Yes, this is the diagram that I've seen previously. It just doesn't have the detail I need about the latching mechanism. Are there springs in the latches? Another option is to somehow fix the latches shut semi-permanently.
