    Any Welders near me?

Sorry I didn't realise that was the case. But to put it in perspective, we were charged £70 for a piece about 30 ins long to be welded in at the garage where it failed its test.

    Any Welders near me?

What part of Huddersfield are you? I am near Marsden and have been able to get welding done on my daughter's car sills with no problem.

    Starting off GRATE!

It did the noise momentarily in two wheel drive after I had reversed to disengage the hubs. Clutch comes in fine and is not near the top. what was initially worrying me was there a problem with new clutch bearing? Once it has done its initial set off out of my drive, which is tight so I have to...

    Starting off GRATE!

Have thought of that and will give it a go tomorrow. Noise is a bit similar to a a Hyundai I had whose power steering made a noise. But as i'm driving the mav can't spray it as it sets off -would have to spray area first to see if it didn't do it at all. It doesn't make a noise until you set in...

    Starting off GRATE!

It does feel as if something is releasing - off on the very first cold set-off, like a 'jerk' then the screech kicks in.

    Starting off GRATE!

Does this mean this is normal on cold starts and i should do nothing?

    Starting off GRATE!

My wife said today when we set off it was more of a whirring/screeching like something running dry (she was outside the car). When I got down the lane to a non-snowy road, I put it in 2 wheel drive and reversed. When I set off, there was still a screech for a second or two. after that...

    Starting off GRATE!

Had the clutch replaced 4 weeks ago on my Mav 2.7TD and it drives fine. However, just recently I have noticed a grating noise the first few set-offs on cold mornings, albeit in 4wd in snow. After a few set-offs, its never heard again. It happens when I take up the drive. Is this normal? Or is it...

    Mineral engine oil

well my Vectra had 359000 miles on it when it finally expired due to fuel pump!

    Mineral engine oil

Lacroupade kindly advised me about engine oil via a Comma link which said that I should use semi-synthetic engine oil in my Mav 2.7TD I used to run a Vectra TD and still have a fair quantity of Tesco mineral diesel oil left. Is it safe to use this oil or mix it with the Comma semi -synthetic?

Ratchety chattering noise from front in 4WD

Great link -seems like I need the semi-synthetic -pity as I have some mineral oil left from when I had my Vectra diesel!

Ratchety chattering noise from front in 4WD

Great tips -only topped expansion bottle so will try rad tomorrow. When weather gets better will change engine oil and filter. looking at the filter, it looks a bit tight to get a removal tool on it? Also, am I ok to use mineral diesel oil or should it be semi-synthetic? Mileage 186000

    Great site for help

As a newcomer have found the help offered to me by others and the past leads most helpful. Just seem to have had the common problems on the old girl (94 2.7TD Maverick), mostly solved now but still thinking of a petrol generator in the rear to power a domestic fan heater ----oh so cold as...

Ratchety chattering noise from front in 4WD

Good that's re-assuring. Members like you have been very helpful. So glad I joined as new ownership of an old vehicle can be puzzling! Still thinking about that generator in the back though.............

Ratchety chattering noise from front in 4WD

Thanks for that. Only difficulty I have had in the snow has been when doing a very tight downhill reverse into deep snow on my drive, using 4H. It feels like it is going over a big stone or something. Pther than that, just need a petrol generator running in the back to run an electic fan heater...

Ratchety chattering noise from front in 4WD

I must be unusual as not only do my hubs not click when I reverse, but I recently drove home on a slightly wet M62 for 25 miles in 4H as I wasn't sure when I would meet slush/snow along the journey. Didn't hear any noises and it seemed to drive fine. In the handbook it says you can drive on...

    best tyres on the snow

I agree about the General Grabbers they seem fine in snow on my recently acquired Mav. The car is miles better than previous Subaru and Seies 2A Land Rover I owned. In fact, it is better in evey way bar one - the heater which is pitiful!

    Caldbeck.

Wish our snow was like that - it must be twice as deep here in saddleworth! But the mav keeps going - hopefully with a heater one day!

    Insurance Quote.... WTF!!!!!!!!!!!

Just renewed mine today on 94 Maverick 2.7 and got best overall policy with CIS by using their own website not a price comparison one. Price for me with max NCB and bonus protection was £225 and bear in mind my postcode - would be much cheaper in an area without 'mystery injury claims' at...
