This thick welding rod is just twisted around to hold the spring to the bottom mount should it fully dislocate, it's under no tension ever The cone is like this, but I cable tied the rubber in place to the cone. Don't do that, thro the rubber away and U trim the cone down so it just fits into...

If I got another I'd do it exactly the same :)

There no bodging at all The cable ties aren't needed and the welding rods hold the springs to the bottom mount so they don't fall out under full dislocation. Same as the retaining bracket on a LR, not a safety issue You need longer shocks to gain anymore articulation in any case
