    Glow Plug preheating (not)

12volt bulb with crocodile clips I use a 12volt hand-lamp with crocodile clips on the end of the leads when I'm testing this sort of thing. It's easy to clip one lead on the glow-plug bus-bar and the other lead on a metal part of the engine. If there's power through to the glow-plugs when you...

    Front Prop shaft Universal Joint

Oh, he's not replacing the prop-shaft, just the faulty U/J which he found at a supplier locally. According to the Milner off road (thanks for the link Terranosaurus) the Front prop-shaft complete is £250, so I'm pleased the U/J is replaceable on it's own. :clap

    Front Prop shaft Universal Joint

Thanks for that guys, it's reassuring to confirm that he's not telling porkies. I didn't think he would be because I've dealt with him for a long time. He phoned me after I'd made the posting to say that he'd found a company locally who could supply one. Quoted me £70 total to remove, replace...

    Front Prop shaft Universal Joint

My Terrano's gone to my friendly mechanic for it's 135,000 mile service. I reported to him that I was getting a vibration when driving at about 58 MPH, I also reported a slight "squeeking" when selecting 4wheel drive, I'd noticed that during the snowy weather earlier in the year. He's just...

    ATP Light on dashboard flashing

I've not noticed any other symptoms that would be related to this light so I'm not to concerned. I just wondered if it was common. From what I can understand of the description, in combination with the circuit, the light should come on when the main gear selector is in Park and the transfer...

    ATP Light on dashboard flashing

Thanks zippy, I downloaded the manuals when I first joined the group so I've already had a go at that. I've tried searching the manual for it but the only reference I can find is in the Electrical section where it shows the lamp itself and the wiring schematic on Pages 70/71. I can't see any...

    ATP Light on dashboard flashing

Over the last six months or so my "52" plate Terrano II 3.0 LWB has started to show the red ATP light on the dashboard. This happens while it's stationery and while driving. Other than this light going on and off at seemingly random intervals, I have not noticed anything strange. The manual...

    Burning smell in 4WD H

4wd burning smell I've had this happen ever since the vehicle was new, smeels a bit like burning rubber, it's always happened for the first hour or so in 4wd and then goes away. Had it yesterday when I was out in the snow with the chains on, it went away again after about 10 minutes. Doesn't...

    Changing the rear LSD oil

Definitely worth the Tenner Thanks again to all you guys who've offered advice. :bow I got "down and dirty" yesterday and changed the rear differential oil. I got some "Carlube", by Tertrosyl, 80w90 which is rated API GL-5 and matches the specification given in the TII manual. It was a...

    Satellite dishes on 'vans

You'll need a 2 metre dish in Spain to receive any of the UK based channels. If you use a smaller dish, you'll only be able to get the signals from Hotbird on 10.3 degrees and the old Astra on 19.2 degrees. Most of this is German, Italian, Belgian or Dutch , unless you count the Pornography...

    Changing the rear LSD oil

Thanks :bow Thanks for all the help and advice, I'm definitely going to do it myself. Just need to get the oil and get on with it. I'll try and take a couple of photos while I'm under there. Just referring to my original post.......Am I correct to assume, like other "oily" bits, it's best to...

    Changing the rear LSD oil

Thanks to the guys for suggesting that I change the rear axle oil as a first try to end my annoying rear "grumbling" noise when setting off at roundabouts and T junctions and when truning tight corners at low speed. (did I mention that one?) I spoke to my local mechanic and he's snowed under...
