    More rustproofing

I think if they've been looked after when new as far as rustproofing goes then they usually have a good fighting chance. I've caught mine at just the right time because the hardest wearing areas under the arches etc needed re-doing. Where I cleaned it up it's all original chassis paint. Gives...

    More rustproofing

Yes the chassis is like in the pictures all over. No rot at all. No rot on the body either. It's all been rustproofed, probably from new and I believe it's spent some of it's life in Australia.

    More rustproofing

Took advantage of the warm weather to put some better protection under the Patrol. I've only done under the wheelarches and the chassis under them but most of the rest of the motor has already got a good coating anyway. Just a few more bits to do, but I'm off to work soon so will do more...

    Hot

True and I wouldn't want their job anyway. I'd be crawling the walls in an office.

    Hot

Was damn hot on top of a train servicing the Hvacs. Big concrete building, other trains pumping out hot air from their own Hvacs. Heat rises and I'm up there in it for about 4 hours in thick work pants, Hi vis and bump cap. Meanwhile the supervisors were all nice n cool in their air conditioned...

    Plugs

According to service manual. TB42 plug gap is 0.8-0.9mm BP5ES. If it's on points, gap is 0.45-0.55mm Valve clearances inlet and exhaust 0.38mm

    TD42 exhaust flexy

Drove to work today, mixture of country roads, mway and town driving. I just drove how I normally would. Definately not pressing the throttle pedal down as far for same speed and it pulls 5th gear easily up a long reasonably gentle hill at indicated 35mph and 1050 rpm, used to drop to 4th there...

    TD42 exhaust flexy

Makeitfit, yes its a 4.2 Puddle hoppers, I did think of that too but my only concern was if I ended up knocking a baffle loose and it blocking the exhaust. Having said that, now that I have another silencer if it all goes wrong might be worth a try. :)

    TD42 exhaust flexy

I'm non turbo and still resisting converting because I just can't be bothered. So I'm hoping the straight through box will be enough to help free things up a little and make it sound a bit nicer without losing low down torque and making it too noisy. I did some research and found that a 39mm...

    TD42 exhaust flexy

Fitted a new one to my Patrol. Mine was looking just a tiny bit sooty on the outside and when I looked inside I found it was just 39mm internal bore  Bought a flexy off ebay with 57mm diameter 100mm long tube welded to each end. The pipe on the Patrol is 55mm outer diameter and I wanted it...

    Trol fuel pump help

Looking forwards to seeing how the S/C works out. Here's what I posted on the pump timing. http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19278 Again, I believe the timing is set for emissions from the factory. I know you have a rotary pump so the mountings might be different, but...

    Trol fuel pump help

Makes a big difference doesn't it? I think they're all set with emissions as priority. You could tweak the pump timing a bit too. That's made a big difference on my TD42. I'm just waiting for a larger bore flexy arriving for the exhaust as well as a straight through middle box. Looked inside the...

    Wanted: Rear load sensing valve

I don't know if there are any alternatives and I don't know exactly what your load sensing valve looks like, but this looks very similar to the pics of the valve in the Y60 workshop manual and pics on google of Y61 LSV's. It's off an L200, but it came up when I googled nissan patrol load...

    Trol fuel pump help

It's probably a rotary pump ( injector pipes come out rear of pump in a sort of circle ) Inline pumps are rarer (but stronger) and the injector pipes come out in a line on the top. You've done it right for a rotary as you have already discovered. Screw in about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. It's opposite for...

    Bio diesel

Straight new veg oil is a pound a litre if you look around. I run 60-70 % svo in my Patrol. I save about 60 quid a month. Bio diesel can attack and damage seals and pipes and from my mates who have run it they say it's too much hassle. Waste veg oil needs a lot of filtering and heating to burn...

    TV World's most dangerous roads.

Looked like a good little adventure didn't it ? A mate and I prepped an old Landy ambulance and 110 years ago to go overlanding but I went n got my girl pregant and he got married, so it never happened. One day I'll get away even if it's only Europe.

How about this for a gearbox then ?

It's Voith, the same company. They do use hydrodynamic braking via the transmission on the trains, but it uses oil not water, though the trans is water cooled. It's an auto box that is electronically controlled and the whole traction braking system is interlinked with not only a multi function...

How about this for a gearbox then ?

Transmission from a train at work. In the background is an engine, 19 litre Cummins. 3 engines and transmissions on each train.
