British plod don't do that. They run standard vehicles. Even in the US they're rarely tuned, they just have updated drivetrains, brakes and suspension. If they need a more powerful vehicle they buy a more powerful vehicle. :thumbs

There would be winners and losers, but it would be more fair. Those that do 5k a year pay much less than those that drive 30k a year. My wife would pay more (25k/yr), whereas I would pay less (7k/yr). :D

I used to work with a chap who had the idea that you scrap VED, and instead you put an amount of "VED" on the price of fuel. The thinking being that the more miles you drive, the more you pay, the "thirstier" your vehicle, the more you pay. This way the "part time" drivers don't subsidise anyone...
