sorry another question if u had choise what k&n filter would u get the induction kit or just replacement panel filter by k&n

Fitted the induction kit recently and was very pleased with the results until I took the caravan down to Cornwall and had a lot of probs with overheating on hills.

I now have the induction kit mounted inside the old air box and seems to be working ok. I will be towing the van up to the NEC caravan show in October so will see if the overheating has stopped.

the proper sealed cold air pickup does that come in the 57i kit or is that a diff kit thanks

57i is just the filter. You would have to make a bigger air box or adapt one from another car. Personally Im happy with the size of the original airbox , just needs a bigger feed.

Which is what I have at the moment but I am looking at fitting a bigger air feed using caravan blown air heating pipe.

so at the mo with it over heating when towing caravan where have u put the cold air pipe i to will be towing a caravan so dont want any problems like u had but my van only weighs max 1245kg how heavy is urs

Cold air pipe go out though the inner wing as standard.

Without the airbox as the engine bay heats up the k&n is sucking in hot air which causes the engine to loose power and then get even hotter.

This shouldn't happen with the airbox fitted.

My van weighs 1650 kg plus 5 people in the car.

i see so no real in provement over the k&n replacement panel filter unless u get hold of a biggr air fom another car i think i c now :lol:augie

Should add that I had to mount the K&N adapter inside the old airbox but not a prob as only meant drilling 4 holes to mount it to.

Might be better just to buy the k&n filter designed to replace the original.

thanks for ur help i will be getting the pannel k&n filter as it is alot cheaper but thanks for pointing out the pit falls :bow

if you want to fit a snorkle at any time youll need to keep the air box.
so replace original fitment.

if you dont want a snorkle induction is a "little" better for driving..

as for water. both let it in, air box will help a little but but the air intake is lower ( in inner wheel arch behind lights)

but drive carfully in induction can ford water a "little" deeper... but only a litt bit

for a 4x4, id stick with K&N panel filter. with CAI, you really need to get the filter close to the ground, and its difficult with these trucks, plus water is an issue too with the filter being so low so thats not an option unless you make your own filter box...

its much easier to just buy the replacement filter, and you do get good results, for the money id do that first and run it for a few months, if you then decide you want CAI, sell the K&N to someone on here and buy the CAI kit..:thumbs

Quite so!

I use the stock tin air box with a K&N style filter inside, but with a 4 inch cold air feed tube and connector to a position behind the headlamp.

(Am also using a smooth bore silicon filter -> turbo hose , but i dont have a MAF anymore now- but you could easily incorporate the maf with a silicon hose).

so ur car goes through mot ok with out the maf then i was going to buy a new maf as when connected it runs like shit but with it disconnected it runs like it should do so y did u get rid of ur maf

I dont have a MAF anymore, as I am running a aftermarket programmable ECU. It uses a MAP sensor for a load signal.

dare i ask how much that cost
and do u take the cold air feed from same place as orginal or higher up do u find the orginal air box big enough too sorry for all the questions still learning bout the great 2.7 tdi terrano.

The original tin can filter box is fine, certainly for around 180bhp and 400ft lbs torque- 3l clutch is still slipping! The pick up tube and spigot is far too small, and the stock filter a touch restrictive.

The programmable ecu and initial mapping on a RR was somewhere in the region of a £grand, the VGT turbo, exhaust, wiring, etc etc etc about the same again.
