Default G'day all...

G’day all,
New here. I own a ’97 Terrano II 2.7TDi. Nissan Australia sold these here from ’97-’99, mine is a Nissan Australian Delivered vehicle not a grey import (there are grey imports down here too). The TII's didn’t sell too well here because of high pricing… and they looked a bit ‘ahead of their time’ (that’s a nice way of putting it). I am currently planning major work to the engine (re-ring) and steering and have joined up in the hope of gaining info to minimise the pain of these tasks and also help others with info for their vehicles.

My vehicle was originally bought for the business (quarries, minesites etc) but now it’s the family hack and used for holidays etc. It is not used for rockcrawling or seeing how stuck I can get for the sake of it, but more to tour into hard to access wilderness locations - hopefully without getting stuck. Below is a quick spec of where the truck is at…

As purchased:
Nissan Terrano II 2.7TDI Ti 1997 (Bought in 2002 at 160km now 290km).
With original: a/c, airbag, nudgebar(removed), towbar, h/light covers, bonnet protector, mats, dash protector, Ming paint/interior protection treatments. Also fitted with heavy duty torsion bars and heavy duty dampers.

Work since purchase:
Fitted ECB roobar.
Staun rust proofing treatment applied to undercarriage, in chassis etc.
Seatcovers.
Startermotor.
Waterpump.
New clutch hose.
Front suspension bushes.
Fitted BFG A/T 30x9.5x15.
New front brake pads and rear shoe re-line.
Complete fuel system overhaul.
Storage draw system and sleeping platform – designed, made and fitted.
Shade screens for rear windows.

Modifications to perform:
Bash plate – Modify to clear articulator and Extend to protect sump. Have purchased second bashplate to modifiy.
Swaybar articulator – Find best location and fit, then paint. Have purchased articulator.
CB radio – Wire in, cut console. Drill bulbar for aerial mount. Have second console, CB and antennae ready.
Cibie Oscars – Drill to mount and wire in with switch and relay. Have all parts, need to fit.
Flexible mudflaps – Find material, cut and fit. Just need to find good rubber.
Rear scrape bar – Fabricate and fit. Relocate numberplate mount? Remove towbar to fit. Have pipe and materials ready.
Snorkel – Use 98 Courier Snorkel. Maybe just extend inlet higher up into inner-guard with PVC pipe and fit prefilter and drain valve?
Fire extinguisher – Buy and fit.
Fit 2nd battery.
12v outlet – Fit to rear luggage area.

All these modifications have been put on hold while I sort out re-ringing the engine and formulate a solution for the dodgy steering (more on this later). Although the snorkel will be fitted ASAP when the engine is re-built.

Hi and welcome to this band of merry men and sheila's :

you got your work cut out with the planned work on ya truck, your past mods sound interesting too. I think this country is far too boring to allow us to make such mods or at least not without emptying our pockets several times over.

I too would be interested in the sleeping arrangement, I rigged up a temp sleeping area in mine for me and my lad. It worked and I could sleep after a bit of beer. Mine was the rear two rows of seats removed, some black material strung around for the curtains. Then a couple of concrete blocks in the rear foot wells with a sheet of plywood to make the rear area flat(ish). Airbed and a couple of sleeping bags and hey presto bedroom -rotfl- Well we managed for a couple of nights but wouldn't like it for much longer.

Jace,
We have an hydraulic engine crane, so engine will probably come out the top. One cylinder is down on comp so hopefully it will only need rings and a hone. If ring broke we might need to go piston(s) too and maybe bore repair needed. Bearings will be done as required after inspection. Head will be sent for basic reco’ whilst bottom end is being rebuilt. If bore and pistons OK should get out of it for around AU$1K (…which is about 12 pounds I think… ha).

Thor,
Bar is "East Coast Bullbars" (Queensland, Australia), high tensile Alloy and is airbag approved. Improves approach angle and reduces consequences of dusk-dawn roo problems. There are no airbag approved winch bars available here for the T2. Not such a problem as a tirfir/mudhauler hand winch will do the job for me - if required.

Dinky,
I am posting the platform details in the modification area…

Our off-the-shelf modifications for Terrano’s here aren’t much better than yours really. Apart from ECB bulbar, we just adapt what is around.

Go here for German Terrano winchbar goodness:
