Default Thetford fridge

Hi all,

We went to Ludlow before Easter and sitting in the van on Sat morn and all the gas came out of the fridge ( ammonia ) so there was a scramble for the exit as ammonia is a oxygen scavaging gas , it took about 40mins to clear enough to go back into the van, I since removed the fridge and found a small crack in the cooling pipe which was corroded. The van is 2005 bailey and I doubt that the fridge's continous running time is more than 40wks since new, so I got in touch with Theford and explained the situation that the warranty was for 3yrs and mine had run for less than a year and paying out at least £600 for a new fridge was out of the question , could they help me out of the situation as I thought was beyond my control, they came back with a stock answer "it's out of warranty" tough s**t, so if anyone knows of a Thetford N109 fridge or an equivalant I would be most grateful.

Default Thetford fridge

Hi,

Apparantly Thetford do not supply spares for the cooling side of their fridges so they said that the fridge is u/s, and a new one would cost about £600 which they say is discounted, but, they would not tell me how much as it was between them (the company) and the dealer where the would send it to and the dealer would want £80 for fitting it.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the difference between a caravan fridge & similar domestic one?

hi,try a refrigerant enginer or similar,if it was just a cracked pipe they should be able to bend up another one fit it and regas the system, the people that fit heat pumps etc would be worth a try, over here they often service fridges as well as heatpumps.cheers

Ok, I have found a small hole in the coolant pipe which was caused by corrosion , it was hidden by the insulation around the exhaust, seems like condensation might have been the cause, and being the N109 fridge was a special for Bailey will be lucky to find one, but the search goes on.
