Default Never owned a Patrol!

Hi Folks

Just about to buy a 1999 5 door Patrol 2.8td, 150k miles on the clock, full service history for last ten year and cam belt done

Couple of questions to ask the knowledgeable folk on here...!

Any common faults to look out for?

Best place for parts and are the expensive (My other car is an 96 Land Rover 90 and I can pick up parts cheap as chips)

What average mpg should I expect?

Hi and welcome, think you will enjoy the Patrol, yours is later than mine so do yo have the mechanical pump or electronic and inter cooler or not I have not needed too many parts and not found them expencive, normal things to look for especially if done much off road/wading,brake slider pins, hub swivel bearings and of course have a good look round for the old tin worm, I get around 21 to the gallon but I do carry a heck of a lot of stuff, Rick

Manly winch bumper with 13000 lb winch
10 spike ground anchor, with multiple straps and blocks
Super strong body cills capped with scaffold pole
20% stronger springs all round
aggressive off road tyres on wheels so just swap.
Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.

Only Nissan 4x4 I have owned was our old R3mr - we loved it.

I only dream of owning a Patrol - who know one day perhaps the lower mileage ones I would want to own are just too expensive !

Check the condition of the chassis, ideally take a hammer with you!

If there is any rot in the chassis it is most likely to be behind the rear axle. Another area for rot is just behind the front bumper. Apart from that it is a brilliant car. I have the 3 door and wouldn’t miss it tor the world.

As said, rust is the main thing. Don't be too alarmed by rust on the rad crossmember as that is VERY common (it's called the factory rust for a reason!).

You shouldn't go through parts too much (at least once any existing issues are sorted) as the Trols are very strong, Aussies love them and 'Cruisers for a reason.

I've never been stuck for parts with either my previous Y61 or my current Y60 but don't expect Landy spare prices for everything and the really Gucci kit is probably gonna need sent from Oz (although the selection of UK/Europe based upgrades has improved greatly since I got my Y61 in 2013).

Shop around and make enquiries is the key I've found, especially as my Y60 is a 24v import just to make things trickier...

Ebay is surprisingly good for parts and I use my local motor factors as well. Other than that there are various Jap 4x4 parts suppliers, all much of a muchness I find, although a well known one did just let me down by supplying some chocolate wheel studs...
