Default MOT Dates

Hi guys, just a hypothetical question. Say your MOT is due around Christmas time when the weather is likely to be cold. Is it possible to get a MOT in say July knowing that you lose 6 months worth of MOT but the advantage of effectively moving the MOT date to middle of summer when it is more likely to be better weather to work on your truck.

I'd say yes.
If you had an MOT today and it passed, all is well and good. If you repeat the test next week and fail, it's the second test that the law would look at, you couldn't fall back on to the previous test.
The only question might be explaining it to a potential buyer.

I must admit, depending on when the MOT is, I try to move it to the spring/summer, by bringing it forward a couple of months at a time until it's at a more reasonable time. Most cars that come to me, come to live out their lives, so it's never been a problem having to explain it to anyone else.

That's exactly as Rick and I said.
Also it's not a lophole if people are being fined for it because it's wrong. People have been getting away with it.
A loophole would render anotherwise illegal act, legal and let you get away with it.

this is why i take mine in for its mot at the end of a week then i have the weekend to work on it and get it back in for a re test on the Monday if needed.
very rare mine fails anyway as i don't tend to leave things to chance and give the truck a good going over before i take it in.

Quite simply if you take your motor in early for a test and it fails then from that point on it is not road worthy, and overrides the previous good ticket, if of course it passes then you have a legit new ticket, Rick
