It has turned out to be a prolonged hiatus for me (2 or 3 years) instead of golden years retirement. Everything here is just as it was when I left, same messages in the inbox, avatar, profile preserved, not even any tumbleweed blowing about.
I've got another Terrano now. I crashed my last one on the way to the off license before it closed. It was January, dark and icy, I went through a (concealed) stop sign and clipped the tail end of a BMW who was trying to scamper as fast as he could away from the runaway Terrano.
The BMW just had a tail light busted and a dent, but unfortunately for my Terrano the hidden rust under the fender plastic meant the impact caused an almost total collapse of the fender and half the bumper in bits. The BMW owner was bolstered by that sight and his testosterone flowed more bravely. The Jap (Spanish) bit of junk took one hell of a beating.
Though you'll be glad to hear I managed to make it to the off license on time.

It wasn't worth fixing as the list of repairs to do was already long and costly before the crash happened, nevertheless with the help of a roll of duct tape I re-assembled the "body work" as best I could.
As I live out of town I still had plenty of chores for the de-regged Terrano to do around the place, kept him busy with tasks such as making paths through the snow for ordinary cars to move in and out etc etc.
Now that I have got a replacement, I suspect I will be stripping the old fellow for usable parts, before retiring him to the scrapyard.
My dog just loves it in the ailing Terrano, I have it parked in a good lookout position, leave the front door open, whichever side is opposite to the wind and she'll lie there totally contented, only disturbed on occasion when the cat comes in for a bit of 'entertainment'.

My newly purchased Terrano was owned by a car rental for a good few years. They had a decent fleet of a dozen Terranos. This one was lifted 2" or 3" and was on 33" wheels, nice fat ones which rubbed a bit on the full turn.
But the tourists were intimidated by the height and the fat tyres and most always chose the default Terrano.

Nice, so how many miles/kilometres has it done?, and how has it faired against the dreaded tin worm.

KMs are in the sig, 145,000km. One of the benefits about the independent rental company owning it was that they did all their own mechanical and lubrication servicing, they put in place a thorough rust/stone chip black protection layer all over the underneath and it still smells toxic fresh. The sills are 90% sound, the other 10% need to be just retreated before I put the steps back on. I bought it from one of the ex employees.
The tail gate door is spotless, as new. The rest of the paintwork is reasonable, plenty of superficial paint scratches (feckin' tourists) and enough stone chipped rust spots above the windscreen (normal dirt track casualties).
Mechanically, the usual suspects, one cv joint, misc suspension bushes and assorted rods but that's just meat and veg to the inveterate Terranoite

Not rust free but very decent where usually rust is an issue, fenders and sills.

The Terrano was lifted a few inches and wider arches were fitted to cater for wider and bigger tires.
The dog is waiting patiently for me to open the door and let her in.
