IIRC you have to go onto the DVLA's web site & it's in the part where you would tax it

You cannot SORN a vehicle until you have a V5 in your name, you used to be able to get a form at main post offices that allowed you to do so but they have not had said form for getting on two years, wait for the V5 and do it on line easy, Rick

There's no rush to sorn although they make it sound like you need to do it immediately. I took my wife's car off the road last month and it slipped my mind. I was sent a letter to remind me to sorn in week 3 of may. It said on the front of the envelope "your final chance "
Still none the wiser I opened it and all became clear. Got on the net and job done. |

apply now, then select I dont have the V11 option then theres a New keeper (using V5C/2 new keeper supplement document reference number) I'm assuming that will work, I have no way of testing so the above may still be true |

I think I must be an old codger!
Thought I'd try calling the DVLA and speak to them about this SORN business. So followed the link earlier in this thread and found an 0300 number. Called them and got standard recorded message no problem, chose the SORN option which turns out to be a press the buttons on your phone to do it which until I get a V5 isn't a lot of good. So phone down try again followed correct options to get a message saying that I need to speak to them, ace! Nope a recorded voice read out this number to call back on but too quick for me to memorise and no pen nearby. So got myself a pen and paper went through it all again took down the number great. Called the number and just get a number unobtainable tone. Called the original number again to make sure I had taken it down correctly and sure enough I had got it right. For goodness sake why do we have such inefficient services from our wonderful cost saving bunch of idiots we call a government. Think it's time to ship out of this sad little island and find a land of common sense, wish I knew if there was one of those places. |

Chill Jim. Don't let em wear you down. It will be fine when you get the new v5. You can then do it online or phone them and have a moan at the same time. They won't care though..

You are right of course apart from the bit about speaking to them, they don't care but worse than that you can't speak to them.

Rick's on the money again!!!
I had to wait for my V5 to come through before SORN'ing the one I've just pulled in from Wales, you'll need the 11 digit document reference number from the front of the V5. Was in too much of a bad state of repair to be welding up and was def a body off jobbie and just didn't have the time, money of space to be tackling this at the moment So that's why it's being stripped for parts
