Default Twitter Users?

How many of you are Twitterists?

If so, do you use it for personal use or for business?

I have distanced my account (@FormerSmurf) from my professional life over the past 18 months, as I don't see why my employer should benefit from my online presence. I have more followers and activity on my account that our 3 companies combined, so they have only gone and "purchased followers", which all seem to be automated bots.

Add your Twitter name below, and help grow your network. Most importantly, follow me. I'm an online attention whore and real-life recluse.

I use it, but mainly as a way to keep an eye on local traffic and weather, plus ferret related stuff.

I have never understood why anyone would buy followers, what is the point in having people follow you who are not interested in what you are writing?

Most of my followers have stumbled across me, and followed me because they have liked something I have posted, apart from the odd few that think that by following me, I will magically follow them back, so they can then try to sell to me.

Really hard to describe.... basically, in simplest terms you can post short messages (Tweets) out into the ethos...

If you post (Tweet) anything that other people may be interested in, they can "follow you", and all your tweets will be placed on to the screen they log onto, so they can see anything you tweet. Equally, you can follow other people, and anything they tweet will appear on your "log on" screen.

Now, how this is useful, I remain to be completely convinced, as you also have lots of people who just want to try another way to shove their advertising down your throat, but by being careful who you follow, and plenty of early use of the block feature you can minimise this. Lots of people have twitter accounts and you can follow people like the local police, weather, traffic, 4x4 response, electric company etc, who post what is going on, and usually reply to questions as well. When we had a power cut, I asked the electricity company about it via twitter, and they told us they knew about it, and it would be back on by 14:30, sure enough, it was.

I also use it to keep in contact with family, friends, Ferret friends etc, to share pictures and stuff.

Having said all this, I do have to say that if Twitter disappeared tonight, I would not be in the least bit upset or lost without it

Yep... probably best.

I think the one thing I have learnt about it is, really it is for people who live on the internet via their smart phones 24/7, and if you don't, things on there disappear before you have even seen them anyway.

No twitter for me, already losing enough time on Facebook . The missus uses it for work though.

Companies "buying" followers is social media suicide. An organic follower list is infinitely more relevant and useful, a warehouse full of kids with 20 accounts each, with no followers or content doesn't really commercially work.

A personal account as previously mentioned, can be completely customised to what ever you need. If you drive for a living? follow local police forces, weather agencies, and like-minded people. Have a question about a specific subject? A naturally grown following should be able to answer.

Or look at pictures of boobies, it's up to you.
