BBC News App
Has anyone seen the updated BBC News App? I'd heard about it on Wednesday and then my android phone wanted to install the update. So after the update I took a look at it, pants, it's aweful and not designed for a little screen. OK I thought, wont install the update on my iPad. Nooooo the dam thing has installed it's self and there too. So about to remove off both devices in disgust.

Sometimes you have no choice with automatic updates.
My old PC runs on XP and hasn't got the hardware to run Windows 7 let alone Windows 8. XP is no longer supported, but why would I want to replace a perfectly good computer.... well all the electronics work fine. I use my ipad for daily surfing etc, but if I want to print anything, I have to warm up the old pc, as I don't want to replace my printers with wifi enabled ones. Last year microsoft did an auto update on Internet Explorer, that meant it was no longer easy to access my email which is from BT so uses Yahoo mail. So yesterday, I was determined to wreck or fix the old PC. So a quick search with my ipad, I searched "XP and compatible browsers" and immediately it advised not to use IE with XP So after a few similar searches, the general concensus was to load mozilla firefox... Which was still being updated to run with XP. 2 minutes later... all running fine, and web searching speed has improved, as before it was locking out. Early days at the moment, but looking at the statistics on the net, 10+ years ago IE was the preferred browser in 95% of applications. It is now less than 55% ... hmmm I wonder why? Also with microsoft you cannot remove it from the system, only disable it as the main browser. A couple of months ago I updated the ios on my ipad... I wished I hadn't, more bugs than a Brazilian rain forrest lol...

Yes a pity about XP but Microsoft needed to make innovations to stay competitive and in fairness Windows 7 is a great os too. Windows 8/8.1 is poo to say the least and funnily enough Microsoft announced this week that Windows 7 and 8 users would be able to upgrade for free! To me that along speaks volumes about the state of their current offerings of OS.
IE11 is defo full of querks shall I say and has issues with perfectly good web sites. Have to say tho I don't think you could go past IE 9 was it with XP which a lot of mail web sites pop a message up saying your browser is outdated which so far Ive found just closing the message still works. That said FireFox seems to de a really good job. Much as I dislike chrome and don't use it last week I actually found a web site that will only run correctly with chrome. To me querks like that are the fault of the web designers and not browsers or operating systems. As with most things in life the information above is only my opinion and I'm pretty sure others will be along with their vieiws which will no doubt contradict others. Back on subject I've just been trying to use the BBC News app on the ipad and still can't get on with it. Looks like I'll have to look for another news app, pity cos I normally like the beebs content. |

I just tried the BBC app on my ipad.... Don't like it.
Before, when pressed for time, I just looked at UK news, quick swipe... ok nothing changed... then world news...sometimes the sport ... In less than 1 minute a few times a day you were kept informed... I don't think the BBC understand what people want or how they use it... now.. Where is a better app? Progress.... humbug.
