Question Ched Evans Saga whats our view ?

It seems everday that there is mention in the Media about the footballer and his return to the sport following his release from prison.

He was found guilty by a jury on the evidence presented to them yet he appears to have no contrition for his conduct. As his mate was found not guilty he appears to think he should also have been found not guilty.
Yes he is appealing and hopes he can get his conviction quashed but I think he is missing the point as to why people think he is not fit to return to football in the UK.

Evans is in denial about his behaviour towards his victim I think this is why there is so much public hate towards him. The conduct of some of his future family and friends does them little credit.

If he appologised to the victim by way of a public statement about his conduct on the night and offered to do the same in person to the victim (if she agreed). I for one could see his return to football in the UK.

Some Footballers seem to engage in shameful behaviour towards women with a complete lack of morality and this image is not good for what is a 'Family spectator sport'.

Any club in the UK that employs him with his current attitude are not sending out a very palpable message to the viewing public.

I would be interested to read what any of our members think.

I think its difficult, because we only know what the media presents to us. Based on what I have read, he is a rapist. Ok, he has done his "time", but I am not so sure he should go back into a high paid sport where his actions are well known to those watching - it sends out a very wrong message. Essentially, I feel that this whole thing has solidified the idea that footballers can do what the hell they want and pretty much get away with it (ok, do your time, but get back into your very highly paid job afterwards).

I think that if he had acknowledged his part in the alleged crime, apologised, did something more than time in jail to prove he is not a bad person and perhaps made a horrible mistake, if he grew BALLS and faced what he had done, then maybe seeing him back in the sport is ok. But acting like a petulant child who still cant admit he stole the sweets despite the wrapper in his pocket doesn't really wash with anyone.

that's my not well thought out opinion, and I am certainly prepared to be put straight on the matter because I don't know all the facts. I am not a huge fan of rapists, or the sort of people that think they can go around throwing their weight about and getting away with it - which is what Ched Evans did. So, I don't like him, and he should be relegated to supermarket work.

Hmmm, we've been debating the same saga at home .
I agree with some of the previous comments regarding his petulant attitude since his release. Personally I hope he does reconsider his attitude and grow up, but in private please.
I also feel it's the money grabbing football clubs that are making this worse.
It's not illegal to hire an ex con, and these clubs obviously don't care a toss for role models.
Can't be arsed with footie myself anyway and I'm glad some of the big club sponsors are getting out of his proposed club.
He's served half of his sentence in prison and is now out on licence . So in theory at least, he needs to be squeaky clean from now on to avoid a return visit to his cell.
I can't imagine what it's like to try and get a job with a criminal record these days but I'd guess pretty miserable. Other less public ex cons must be right pissed off.
In short I'm in favour of him getting a job, I don't like his attitude or the football clubs that have tried to hire him. I hope he grows up and more over so do the supporters of the club he signs for and don't go to watch him.
Right I'm off to remove this annoying fence out my arse

This is exactly how I feel, but just to add, no-one is saying he can't work, just that he can't work in a job where he can influence impressionable people. If he was a teacher, policeman, social worker.. etc, he would not be allowed to go back to those jobs either.. If I had done it, I would not even be able to do a lot of the Volunteer work, because I would fail police vetting, so it should be like for like for him. He has lost the privilege of being in a public facing over paid job, and now has to go back to working properly for a living like the rest of us.

Professional Footballers have lost their way, over the years, and as said, now think they can do anything, and are above the law. It is after all "Just" a sport, which should be classed as fun, not paid work, and I have always thought they are paid too much, for what is after all, just playing a simple game. So many of them make their fortune not only while they are in the game, but continue on afterwards, influencing people, so again, it is more important that they respect this position from the word go.

It's not like it was even a simple crime, Rape is a big issue, and you are brought up from a very young age that it is wrong, He may consider he has served his time, and want to put it behind him, carrying on as though nothing happened, but can the Poor Woman he did it too??

Well the good news is, they listened to us, and have decided not to sign him. Bet he leaves the country for a foreign team now.

I'm guilty of not getting all the details so I'm reserving my judgement, but I saw on the BBC that the woman was deemed too drunk to give consent, she was 2.5x over the drink drive limit. I though the limit was 2 units? In which case she had 5 units in her system? I.e. 2.5pints?? Surely that can't be right?
