yes you can.

So long as you have an available IDE or SATA slot and cables you can put your old drive into the new pc, boot up and windows 8 will read the older filesystem on the old disk - you then browse it and copy your files over, easy.

Alternatively buy a hard drive caddy, plug the old disk into that, plug the caddy into the new pc via USB and hey presto - will be slower when copying files though.

what type of new pc is it?

this will work either way

ok Zippy that PC MIGHT not have enough room inside for another disk so id go for the caddy - you don't need to spend a fortune. Get yourself a SATA caddy - you just need to check your old disk is SATA, I am assuming it is. The connector will have two plastic looking bits on the end, ide is a bunch of pins.

anyway, a caddy will really come in handy and if you choose one that takes memory cards, usb etc you have that extra versatility.

LENOVO's are OK, nice build, they are IBM that were bought out. My laptop is a Lenovo, bought a cheaper version for the eldest daughter, got my brother-in-law to buy one and when the wife's Asus craps out, she will get one. Far better than the HP laptop I had which went back to PC world for repair within 6 months with a screen display fault, then back a few weeks later with a screen display fault. They had a policy that if it needed 3 repairs within the year they would replace it. Picked it up from the second repair, guy gave it to me, I said that I would like to check it, opened it up and the screen was still playing up, lucky for me the manager saw it and offered me a replacement. Did I want another HP he asked, no way I told him and paid a bit more for this Lenovo.

I would stick another 4GB RAM in it, then you should have no issues. 4GB RAM is a little on the tight side with Windows 7/8.

Log onto Crucial the memory company and let them remote scan you PC, they will tell you exactly what free slots you have and what RAM to buy

Default Caddy and RAM UPGRADES

I agree with previous comments.
I bought a Caddy when my brothers PC gave out. Put his HD in and transferred all his stuff over no problem.

I used Mr Memory to scan my PC it enabled me to buy the correct RAM upgrade and they are a good price too though its worth looking for offers once you know what type you need.
