I love patrols and I also want one myself, but this challenge is pointless, now I'm not slagging off the patrol as they are awesome but you might aswell have driven a Prius round there as it got winched the whole way anyway

I await the wooden stakes

Why is it pointless? There's not much that could get through that all without winching.

It is called winch challenge... so it's not all about the vehicle and driver, but the co driver too and winch power and technique.

I guess so, I love the fact I have a winch, but to me the vehicle has "failed" at that point and you are relying on recovery method to save your bacon

Not for me, but I see the appeal

took the words out of my mouth.

why did the truck fail
got round the course and was still fully working at the end.
I best sell mine then because it failed on the yorky moors when I got caught out and got stuck.

It's not a failed recovery method when it's part of the competition, They are not recovering but merely using the tools they have on the vehicle to get through the course set out. To take on the extreme terrain they need the winches, otherwise you could say they should just drive around on tarmac...

It's all part of the challenge and fun.

So this guy failed below because he had to winch?

Yeh I'm with Fez and others on this one, winching is part of the challenge on those courses... and you still need a decently modded offroader - a Prius with a winch would not have done it!

Fez, was it you that posted the vid a while back of the Aussie's at a winch challenge event with the Y60 lwb modded into a 2 door pickup - there was some awesome winching/offroading in that one (the bit that sticks in my mind is when it goes up the near vertical dirt cliff )
