Garage/security info

Hi all, so a quick Q&A, me and the missus are moving house soon, we hope we have found the perfect house that we are viewing on Saturday, it has a garage structurally connected to the house and made of brick.

The garage is going to be my domain

and will be converted into a man cave. Question is, we want to store a gun cabinet in the garage. From what I can find on the net we would need to reinforce the garage door and make sure the cabinet is a structural part of the house (bolted, welded whatever)

Anyone got any ideas for security? And anyone got any info of making this a possibility?

From the limited info I know, as long as the gun cabinet is bolted to the wall and the ammo is securely stored away from the gun(s) and uprated garage door is a bonus...

But I stand to be erected

I was debating turning the garage into Fort Knox anyway, cementing the cabinet would be pretty awesome with ammo on a different level for example

just being practical, I can carry kit in the car to swipe a wheel clamp in 30 seconds, so how long to get into your fort knox with just a bigger battery? Rick

I think the key to what Rick is saying is, that the best ways to keep something secure, has nothing to do with how well you build it, or where you try and hide it, but is basically not to let people know it is there in the first place... e.g., not telling everyone on a public forum on the internet what you intend to do...

Personally, I would have a rear high security door added to the rear of the garage, and build a wall behind the main garage door, so from the outside, it looks like a garage, but if you removed the door, there would be a brick wall there.

I would then fix my gun cabinet to the wall of the house, and enclose it in a cupboard, so it did not look like a gun cupboard, with an alarm on the door, connected straight through the wall into the house, so you know if anyone opens the door to get to the cabinet. I would then not tell a soul about any of this....

Alex, security is not all about nuts bolts and concrete.
It is a state of mind also, there will I am sure, be members of this forum that know precisely what I mean.
Please make your enquiries and proposals much less public.......be more security minded........

A pair of steel gates behind the (up & over?) garage door will slow most down considerably.

Remember,... locks are only there to keep the honest folks out!

when I had mine ( Remington 10 bore with gas recoil chamber ) I kept mine at the gun club

Both my air rifles are easily at hand in the cupboard on the landing.
That's something I like to remember should I need them for anything in the future.

Cheers for the comments, I am not worried about someone trying to break in and steal them due to the fact that nobody knows where we are hoping to move

Unless they are going to knock on every door in bedfordshire

So yeah, although I have made my current house quite public the new house is a secret location

(until I post a load of new pics)
